Involves analytical studies on a variety of policies, projects, programs, and issues in support of a function, research initiative, program, and / or organizational unit, or in research of new or changing systems and programs.

Assists in policy and program planning, development, administration, management, and implementation; interprets, monitors, and analyzes information regarding policies and procedures and provides consultative services to department administrators and other stakeholders.

The JJBH-Community Engagement, Outreach and Advocacy (JJBH-CEOA) Project Policy Analyst 3 position is with Dr. Marina Tolou-Shams' Juvenile inJustice Behavioral Health (JJBH) research team in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco and Division of Infant, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Zuckerberg SF General Hospital (ZSFG).

The UCSF-ZSFG JJBH research team engages in a program of research that incorporates epidemiological / observation, behavioral intervention efficacy trial, and structural-level approaches (including policy change) to understanding how to improve behavioral health outcomes for publicly (Medi-Cal) insured and / or systems-involved youth and young adults.

The JJBH Project Policy Analyst will join a national multi-cultural, multi-lingual team who are dedicated to improving behavioral health outcomes, reducing health disparities, and using data to inform health policy among publicly-insured and / or system-involved youth and adult populations.

The primary functions of this position will be across digital health, behavioral health, and policy / implementation science projects and will have a heavy emphasis on community and public policy stakeholder engagement related to these projects.

Examples studies include an implementation science trial of a digital health app with Court Appointed Special Advocate programs across 10 counties in California and a data indicators project aimed toward improving population behavioral health outcomes across the lifespan and statewide.

Under the supervision of a JJBH Supervisor, the incumbent will work closely with Dr. Marina Tolou-Shams and JJBH collaborators and partners to help coordinate and support Dr.

Marina Tolou-Shams' JJBH research grants and related community engagement and public policy activities for broader behavioral health policy projects for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.

The incumbent will provide research and programmatic support through a variety of tasks, including but not limited to :

  • Aiding with participant recruitment, consenting, enrollment, and retention;
  • Primary and secondary data collection and database management;
  • Engaging with local, state, and federal partners on development and implementation of behavioral health policy projects;
  • Supporting the system-level implementation of digital mental health interventions being tested;
  • Preparing reports for Institutional Review Boards and grant funders, and any other necessary paperwork and dissemination content related to projects including website content, presentations, manuscripts, and grant preparation.

The home location of the incumbent will be UCSF Pride Hall, but up to 50% of their time may be spent working / traveling in the Bay Area (e.

g., Alameda, Contra Costa).
