Overview

The LMI Team seeks a dedicated and forward-leaning STEM Education Support Specialist to join its team partnering with NASA to support the next generation of STEM innovators.

The STEM Education Support Specialist would represent NASA's Office of STEM Engagement (OSTEM) within a local San Antonio, TX school district (specifically supporting one magnet middle school and one magnet high school), focusing on creating STEM-centered learning environments, enabled by NASA missions, content, and innovation ecosystem.

The primary objective of the program is to engage students in authentic, real-world learning experiences and to increase academic achievement rates.

The STEM Education Support Specialist will serve as an instructional coach and liaison between the school district, its educators, and its students and NASA.

This role will support the development and implementation of NASA’s STEM curriculum, facilitate professional development for educators, and coordinate STEM events to enhance student learning opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a high-volume of one-on-one coaching cycles with teachers across multiple campuses.
  • Perform in-class modeling and co-teaching of NASA content.
  • Identify and support areas of growth for staff with campus leadership.
  • Lead group professional development sessions, catered towards educators and staff, and focused on innovative applications of NASA content to science, technology, engineering, and / or math curricula.
  • Plan, prepare for, execute, and facilitate school-wide STEM engagement events, connecting stakeholders to NASA content, learning materials, etc.
  • Support the alignment of STEM events and content development with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and current units of study.
  • Plan, prepare for, execute, and facilitate disttict and campus leadership meetings.
  • Conduct NASA 101 briefings to campus stakeholders.
  • Execute Train the Trainer events to expand the network of educators and other stakeholders who are prepared to deliver NASA STEM related content throughout the academic year.
  • Develop and facilitate the NASA Ambassador Program, recognizing students and teachers who are particularly engaged in NASA events and building a community of advocates for NASA programming within school district.
  • Propose and document innovative partnership concepts.
  • Promote NASA OSTEM competitions and challenges within school district.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in science, technology, engineering, education, or a relevant adjacent field.
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience.
  • The ability to maintain an in-person work schedule, closely aligned to a traditional school environemnt schedule.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and collaboration software (WebEx, Teams, etc.).
  • High-energy work ethic, with the ability to work autonomously, forge relationships with educators and staff, evangelize NASA content for STEM education, and build excitement around leveraging services provided to educators.
  • Background in Science, Math, Engineering, or Technology education.
  • Experience in content and curriculum development.
  • Strong project management and coordination skills.
  • Ability to present and develop engaging content for in-person, hybrid, and virtual formats.
  • Experience with evidence-based practices and ability to work with district staff to meet student needs.
  • High-level communication and writing / editing skills.
  • Experience in culturally responsive networking and engagements.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to co-create and execute educator professional development programs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with learning management systems (Canvas, etc.).
  • Instructional coaching experience preferred.
  • Experience using NASA educational products in a K-12 setting.
  • Knowledge of NGSS, TEKS, and CCSSM.
  • Experience working with underrepresented and underserved communities.
  • Ability to create content for NASA internal communications channels, including knowledge articles and banners.
