Overview
In collaboration with the nursing and physician staff, the emergency technician assists in providing timely and appropriate patient-family centered care for all patients in the Emergency Department.
In order to assist the Emergency Department Team, this position requires an understanding of care and service needs of critically ill through acutely ill pediatric through geriatric population.
This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of San Gabriel Valley Medical Center.
It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values. The employee shall support San Gabriel Valley Medical Center’s strategic plan and the goals and direction of the Performance Improvement Plan (PIP).
Responsibilities
- Enters and maintains data for hospital, information for . County through Reddi Net System.
- Performs general secretarial duties such as typing, filing, mail, phones, etc.
- Obtains necessary training prior to initial equipment use.
- Maintains Emergency Department log .
- Demonstrates knowledge of EDITS Program.
- Orders supplies as needed.
- Assists nursing staff with computer order entry.
- Documents HMO authorizations appropriately.
- Basic hygiene and nursing care.
- Patient safety measures.
- Use of restraints.
- Vital sign measurement.
- Intake and Output.
- Obtaining / transporting of specimens.
- Stocking of department supply areas.
- Oxygen administration.
- Application of non-sterile dressings / binders.
- Application of orthopaedic immobilization devices.
- Obtaining 12 Lead EKG’s.
- Oral suctioning.
- Point of care testing (urine drip; blood glucose)
- Phlebotomy (adult / pediatric).
- Obtains necessary training prior to initial equipment use.
- Assures equipment is in operating order prior to use.
- Uses the following equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s operating instructions. Including, but not limited to :
Blood pressure measurement devices
Thermometers
Scales
Restraints
Dopplers
Oxygen administration devices
Suction devices (wall / portable)
Glucometers
EKG Machines
Pulse oximeters
Glucometers
Cardiac monitoring systems
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education / Training / Experience
High School Graduate or equivalent
Excellent communication and observation skills
Phebotomy experience preferred
EKG experience preferred
Bilingual (Spanish / Chinese / Vietnamese / English) preferred
Basic computer skills preferred
Licenses / Certifications
Current BLS certification required
Current EMT or EMT-P certification required
CA Phlebotomy License CPT I or CPT II within 90 days
MAB within 90 days of hire.
