Position Summary Under the supervision of the Director of Operations, position is responsible for dispatching owner operators.

Full-time and one weekend per month.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Be a reliable and dependable employee who shows up to work regularly and understands the high level of responsibility and accountability demanded from our clients and from us as a company
• Strong knowledge of Houston Ports, Rails, and Intermodal Equipment
• Manage the freight chain from customers request to delivery in an efficient and cost effective manner
• Manage drivers to meet on-time requirements and efficiency levels meet company minimum on-time performance levels
• Maintain and assign nightly on-call and weekend coverage to drivers to ensure we have enough coverage to meet client needs
• Following up to ensure deliveries are on schedule according to the plans
• Notify clients well in advance of potential late deliveries (both the shipper and the receiver)
• Manage delivery of these services and provide necessary paperwork.
• Manage and capability to resolve trouble issues within your operation
• Organized, attentive to detail, self-starting, solid follow-through and multi-tasking.
• Ability to interact with drivers and communicate instructions verbally over the phone
• Must have 3+year of Port Dispatching experience

Customer Service

• Work closely with Local Customer Service to ensure customers’ needs are met and exceeded
• Work with Billing & Payroll to ensure timely and accurate information is captured in our dispatch software
• Work internally with team members to ensure daily work is complete and future days are effectively planned out
• Ensure the on-time performance to meet the Customer expectations for loads booked
• Ensure that scheduled loads are making cut-offs in and out of various ports
• Responsible for loading and unloading appointments
• Solve driver settlement issues
• Responsible for delivery of inbound road loads. Make sure all imports are pulled before Last Free Day.

Data Entry

• Enter additional legs into computer system (stop-offs, scales, etc.) at a fast and accurate pace
• Enter driver pay into computer system to ensure timely information is captured and processed
• Enter data into the system and communicate with maintenance or safety all equipment issues communicated by drive

Physical Demands

• Speaking / Hearing : Ability to communicate information to Owner / Operators, customers and office personnel
• Prolonged periods of sitting
• Standing : Remain upright on feet for sustained periods of time
• Walking : Ability throughout the office
• Flexibility including bending, stretching and lifting
• Visual acuity to perform an activity such as viewing a computer terminal
• Use of hands and fingers to handle or feel

Qualifications

• Prior experience with VI Software a plus
• Must have a minimum of 3+ years of experience port dispatching
• Must possess excellent verbal communication skills
• Maintain a friendly demeanor and professional appearance
• Ability to work well in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
• Ability / willingness to learn new skills / processes and improve current skills
• Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word and Excel
• Bilingual in Spanish
