The Camp Director m anages overall operations of Army Lake Camp to maintain a level of operational and service excellence and ensures an environment in which effective mission of The Salvation Army can be fulfilled.

About the role :

  • Consult with the Camp Administrator to establish goals for the camp, including "action" steps toward realization of those Ensure any financial aspects of goals are included in working budget.
  • Stays current with local, state, and federal laws and regulations applicable to camp to ensure Army Lake Camp (hereafter ALC) remains in compliance, ensuring property and operations are always ready for applicable agency
  • Ensure ALC meets all up to date membership requirements for certification with the American Camping Association, and that all marketing materials, contracts, and other guest services materials meet the standards set by the ACA and all local, state and federal regulations.
  • Reviews crisis and risk management plans and procedures on an annual basis, updating as
  • Supervises, monitors, and evaluates the work performance of the ALC year-round staff and summer seasonal (non-program) staff.
  • Recruits and makes recommendations for hire for year-round and seasonal staff, providing support, learning, encouragement, and development
  • Works cooperatively with the Divisional Youth Department staff in developing and operating the Summer Camping This includes recruiting, training, and leading summer camp staff.
  • Identify, initiate, and deepen relationships with various community stakeholders in the East Troy Search out opportunities for community involvement, including interviews and speaking engagements with government, churches, civic and community groups.
  • Research pricing information for competing camps and conference centers for review with the Camp Administrator, establishing and maintaining current pricing structures (internal and external) for services and facility use which are competitive in the regional marketplace.
  • Maintain a process for customer and employee feedback. Reviews and respond (if appropriate) to all comments, identifying areas needing improvement.
  • Coordinates with the Camp Administrator to create and implement a marketing plan and marketing materials for ALC.
  • Meet and greet leaders of rental groups and other guests, ensuring an excellent and hospitable experience. Provide tours, introduce key staff, and reviews Camp and Retreat Center rules as appropriate.
  • Receive and resolve concerns and / or questions from guests. Record and tracks all complaints to enhance training and customer service.
  • With the ALC staff, arrange and direct all activities regarding guest reception, including :
  • Preparation of facilities ensuring rental space are open and set according to rental agreement.
  • Host rental groups.
  • Receiving and responding to after-hours emergency calls and establish on call rotation for rental groups needs throughout their stay.
  • Coordinates and oversee the processes for resetting camp after a group's departure, making note of and following up on any damages or loss of property.
  • Works with the Camp Administrative Assistant to complete management task, including but not limited to :
  • Managing all financial and business matters of ALC, including budget management, detailed record keeping, and office operations.
  • Processing of contracts and use agreements between both external and internal (TSA) use of ALC, tracking deposits, signed contracts, and final payments.
  • Utilizing TSAMM to submit ALC matters for Divisional Finance Board approvals.
  • Maintaining and maximizing ALC website and social media
  • Ensuring that all marketing material, rental group contracts, and other materials meet American Camping Association standards and Wisconsin State Codes.
  • Answering inquiries regarding ALC policies and services
  • With appropriate staff, manage product sales and inventory for camp Sweet Shop and Camp Store.
  • Remain watchful for any unexpected individuals (emergency responders, utility workers, trespassers, etc.) on the grounds and take action as appropriate dependent on the circumstances including, but not limited to, notifying pertinent personnel (Camp Administrator, Maintenance Staff, DHQ, Police, etc.).
  • Remain watchful for any emergency conditions or situations that may threaten the safety of visitors or may cause damage to the property and take action as appropriate.

Education : Bachelor's degree in Christian Recreation, Christian Leadership, Hospitality, Management, Resort Management, or other related degree.

Experience : Five years progressive experience in management roles in a camp setting

Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Certifications :

  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License with approval to drive from TSA's insurance carrier.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (must have or obtain within first 90 days of employment).
  • Safe From Harm Trainer Certification - Must have or obtain within 180
  • ServSafe Food Handler Certification - Must have or obtain within first 60
  • Challenge Course training (must obtain within first 180 days of employment)
  • TSAO Certifications : NASP Basic Archery Instructor Trainer, Basic Air Rifle Instructor Trainer, Project Wild Facilitator Trainer (must obtain within first 180 days of employment)
