Job Description :
The IP Counsel will be responsible for strategic procurement and management of global intellectual property rights related to large molecule biopharma / biotechnology candidates, including antibodies, gene therapies, and related innovations.
This role focuses on building and managing patent portfolios, performing freedom-to-operate analyses, and developing risk mitigation strategies.
The ideal candidate excels at working independently, has strong organizational skills, and has extensive experience in biopharma IP management.
Key Responsibilities :
- Oversee the global IP procurement and management for biopharma / biotechnology products, including patent drafting, prosecution, and managing global patent portfolios.
- Conduct freedom-to-operate, infringement, and validity analyses, along with risk assessments and mitigation strategies for various technologies.
- Design and implement impactful IP portfolios, from invention capture through patent issuance, ensuring strategic protection of innovative biopharma assets.
- Identify and leverage strategic opportunities based on a deep understanding of patent law, while keeping up with changes in legal regulations across global jurisdictions.
- Provide expertise on patent law and regulations, particularly in relation to the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office and other international IP bodies.
Requirements :
- Proven track record in managing global IP portfolios for large molecule biopharma / biotechnology products.
- Strong experience conducting freedom-to-operate analyses and developing risk mitigation strategies across various technologies and jurisdictions.
- Experience with IP transactions and due diligence is preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in pharmaceutical / biopharma intellectual property portfolio creation and strategy.
- Advanced degree relevant to pharmaceutical IP (Ph.D. preferred).
- JD with admission to at least one U.S. state bar and practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
