The Planning & Institutional Effectiveness (PIE) office furthers the College’s mission and commitment to student success by providing accurate, timely, and actionable information to facilitate evidence-based planning and decision-making to improve institutional effectiveness and support continuous improvement.

PIE leads the College’s efforts around accreditation, assessment, data management, grant development, institutional effectiveness, institutional research, planning, and project management.

Under the general supervision of the Associate Vice President - Planning, Institutional Effectiveness, & Project Management , the Director of Outcomes Assessment is responsible for ensuring outcomes assessment practices comply with accreditation standards.

This position leads the Learning Outcomes Assessment Committee and works directly with faculty leaders across programs / units for learning outcomes assessment activities.

Primary responsibilities include the following :

  • Engages faculty, administrators, and other key stakeholders to ensure that learning outcomes at the course, program, and institutional levels are 1) assessed on a regular basis and that 2) assessment data are being used to improve instructional practices and programs.
  • Works collaboratively with the Learning Outcomes Assessment Faculty Coordinator.
  • Collaborates with the Office of Instruction to plan meaningful data collection training for faculty.
  • Supports Deans, Faculty Program Coordinators (FPCs), and departmental faculty in building and maintaining curriculum matrices that map learning outcomes.
  • Works collaboratively with the Instructional leadership team on instructional program reviews.
  • Manages an accessible repository of learning outcomes assessment reports and ensures learning outcomes data dashboards stay updated.
  • Reviews / analyzes data in relation to target goals, providing recommendations and summary information, as appropriate.
  • Documents learning outcomes assessment processes.
  • In collaboration with the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility, develops, delivers, and manages professional learning opportunities related to learning outcomes assessment with a focus on equity-based assessment methods and interventions that aim at closing equity gaps in student learning.
  • Contributes to accreditation self-study reports and tracking the College’s compliance with accreditation standards related to outcomes assessment.
  • Leads the Learning Outcomes Assessment Committee (LOAC) and serves on other relevant committees such as Curriculum Committee and Transfer Planning Committee.
  • Helps implement and manage integrated planning, improvement, and outcomes software.
  • Supports the AVP-PIE with institutional effectiveness projects, as assigned.
  • Prepares and / or directs the preparation of various written correspondences, reports, procedures, and other materials.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (of a similar nature or level).

Required Education & Experience :

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Two (2) years’ experience with learning outcomes assessment or similar work
  • Experience in project management and / or leading teams to goals / outcomes

Knowledge Of :

  • Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Online collaboration tools such as SharePoint
  • Principles and best practices related to learning outcomes assessment in higher education

Skill In :

  • Contributing to diversity by fostering a climate of multicultural appreciation and awareness
  • Providing leadership, motivating staff and colleagues, and working collaboratively across job classifications, College divisions, and between agencies and organizations
  • Managing competing priorities within a high energy, dynamic work environment
  • Working both independently (with minimal supervision) and collaboratively within a team
  • Effective communication (both oral / written) to a variety of diverse audiences
  • Establishing / maintaining effective relationships with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and researchers within the College, state agencies, and other institutions of higher education
  • Handling difficult and sensitive situations, using sound independent judgment within policy and legal guidelines

Conditions of Employment

Physical Work Environment :

The College is currently providing services in a mixed modality of operations (both online and in-person services are offered).

Administrators are assigned to work on campus, noting there may be some opportunities to work remotely based on program or area needs.

If authorized for limited remote work, employees will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs.

When working on-campus, this position will perform work in a standard office setting, use standard office equipment and physically attend meetings both on and off campus, using the ability to communicate in person or through appropriate means.

This position also works weekends and evenings when appropriate or needed is required.

Terms Of Employment / Salary :

  • This is a full-time administrative / exempt annually contracted position.
  • Initial salary placement determined by the College dependent upon education / experience.
  • Hiring of this position is contingent upon available funding as determined by the College President.

A part time faculty member becomes eligible for benefits at the beginning of the second consecutive quarter of half time or more employment at one or more Washington state institutions of higher education.

Spring and fall quarters are considered consecutive quarters for benefits eligibility. Half time is determined based on each institution's definition of full time.

A part time faculty member must qualify each quarter they teach to maintain eligibility. Once eligible, part time faculty will be notified of their benefit and retirement options.
