Director of Social Services - Family Shelter

A leading nonprofit organization in New York City is seeking an experienced Director of Social Services to oversee operations at a transitional family shelter serving 50+ families. This role combines leadership, crisis management, and hands-on social services expertise to ensure high-quality client care and program compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a multidisciplinary social services team of 8+ staff, including case managers, housing specialists, and coordinators
• Oversee daily operations of the Social Services Department, ensuring program goals and compliance with DHS and city regulations
• Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation support for staff and clients
• Conduct weekly supervisions, performance evaluations, and staff development
• Manage administrative and compliance functions including chart audits, reporting, and database maintenance (CARES, CTS, NYC Way, 4002)
• Serve as 24 / 7 on-call emergency contact (phone only)
• Support client families in achieving permanent housing placements and maintaining stability
