Regional Controller
Position Overview
The Regional Controller position is a critical operational accounting role which supports warehouse locations and ensures the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial operations, as well as providing strategic guidance to support the company's and division’s growth objectives.
The Regional Controller reports to the VP of Finance, Accounting & Audit. This position will work collaboratively with Division Presidents, Branch General Managers, Operations, and Senior Leadership Teams to lead the divisions’ accounting, and financial reporting processes, procedures, compliance, and initiatives in an assigned geographical area.
Key Responsibilities
The Regional Controller must be aligned with the Company’s goals, KPI’s, culture and customer service priorities.
- Support the Regional President, and branch senior leadership reporting needs, variance explanations, analyses, and ad hoc requests including the daily operational accounting management while maintaining and improving internal controls, regulatory compliance, and financial reports.
- The Regional Controller will partner with operations management teams for the locations in the region and engage in all financial aspects of these operations to provide timely and comprehensive financial leadership to the management teams.
- Collaborate with branch leadership to analyze and optimize warehouse and transportation processes, identify cost reduction opportunities, and enhance profitability.
- Maintain accurate inventory records at the branch warehouses as well as third party warehouses.
- Lead the financial activity for multiple warehouse / plant locations including the day-to-day accounting, reporting, forecasting and internal controls for regional operations.
- Monitor Inventory levels and controls including obsolescence monitoring, inventory turn analysis and valuation.
- Assess operational and financial risks with branch operations and implement risk mitigation strategies.
- Lead and coach the accounting team, strengthening cross-training and redundancy processes to ensure optimal cash management, A / P, A / R, and month end closed completed timely, accurately, and efficiently.
- Ensure compliance with key control procedures and corporate policies and procedures at the regional warehouse / plant with the management teams to ensure the financial integrity of the warehouse / plant financial information and safeguarding of assets.
- Capital project preparation, project accounting and post project follow up, review and analysis.
- Assist in month end closing, prepare journal entries, as necessary.
- Prepare branch level account recs managing and reporting on risks as needed.
- Partner with FPA in preparation and review of Annual Plan and Monthly Forecasts.
- Provide support for external and internal audits.
- Complete other tasks and projects as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
The Regional Controller position requires individuals to have the ability to perform each essential job function. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities :
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA, CMA or MBA preferred
- 5+ years of financial leadership experience
- 5+ years’ experience as a plant, warehouse, distribution, or operational controller
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to effectively lead, coach and develop a team
- Financial analysis skills (identifies information needed to prepare and validate analyses; interprets and draws conclusions from financial information;
extracts meaning from data by recognizing trends and patterns)
- Ability to observe happenings be curious enough to investigate the why and execute upon findings
- Solid understanding of financial acumen and business operations
- Exceptional communication, writing and people skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams
- Professional attitude with a strong commitment to complying with financial and business ethics
- Outstanding time and project management skills
Technical Requirements
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, financial software, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Teams & Outlook)
- Experience in HFM, OneStream, MS Oneview, MS PBI Reporting are a plus.
Language Skills
Fluent in English (verbal & written)
Physical Demands
Physical requirements can vary. However, the position may require the following physical activities : Ability to lift at least two pounds to a maximum of twenty pounds unassisted;
sit, stand, stoop, walk, stretch, reach frequently; moderate range of body motions.
With company issued PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) have the ability to walk in a cold warehouse environment for a limited amount of time.

Ability to travel by automobile and / or air may be required
