Overview
As a Network Engineer at Pet Supplies Plus, you'll play a crucial role in keeping our paw-some network ecosystem running smoothly.
Just as we care for the health and well-being of pets, you'll ensure our IT infrastructure is always in peak condition. You'll be the backbone of our technology kennel, providing support, troubleshooting, and maintenance of our expansive retail network.
Whether in the "cloud" or on the ground, you'll help us deliver a "fetching" and reliable network to over 700+ stores across the nation as well as our Distribution centers and corporate locations.
Responsibilities / Qualifications
The Network Engineer will :
- Manage and support the existing Meraki core network, ensuring it’s always ready to "pounce" into action.
- Oversee and maintain the network habitats of our retail stores, including Meraki switches, Wi-Fi, and VPN configurations for all branch locations.
- Troubleshoot, manage, and maintain network devices such as wireless access points, firewalls, routers, switches, and virtual appliances to keep things running like a well-trained pack.
- Lead Tier 2 / 3 technical support for any "ruff" communication issues, ensuring seamless connectivity between stores, distribution centers, and corporate headquarters.
- Partner with the Azure Cloud Engineer to manage PSP’s Azure network infrastructure, including Meraki VPN Concentrators, NLB, and Barracuda virtual firewalls, ensuring that our cloud bark is as strong as our bite.
- Keep our "den" (network) secure by ensuring continuous uptime and reliability for PSP's distribution centers and any future locations.
- Deploy site-to-site VPN connections to guarantee smooth interconnectivity across all our PSP "pack" locations.
- Maintain and update network documentation and diagrams, so your fellow tech-team members always know where to sniff out the details.
- Perform network troubleshooting with the precision of a hunting dog, capturing packets, upgrading firmware, and ensuring everything runs securely.
- Configure and optimize remote monitoring software for top-notch alerting and proactive issue resolution.
- Participate in a 24x7 on-call support rotation to ensure business continuity.
PAWsome Network Engineer candidates will have :
- 5 + years of experience in multi-site network environments, preferably in a retail setting having worked with systems that are as fast-paced as a Border Collie.
- Expertise in managing high-availability firewalls (Barracuda CloudGen is a plus), network security, Wi-Fi, VPN, VLAN, routing / switching, DNS, and Azure-based infrastructure.
- Proficiency in automating manual tasks with scripts (Python, shell, , ensuring smooth "purr-formance."
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships across the pack, from tech-savvy colleagues to less techy team members.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with an eye for detail and the ability to sniff out and resolve issues quickly.
- Performance Monitoring and Capacity Management : Monitor system performance, manage capacity, and proactively address potential issues
- Process Automation : Automate repetitive or error-prone manual processes to enhance efficiency and reduce operational risks
- Familiarity with Azure network infrastructure, NSGs, NLB, and Meraki VPN concentrators.
- A strong focus on network security, PCI compliance knowledge is a "paw-sitive" bonus.
- Ability to juggle multiple projects and tasks in a fast-paced "kennel," keeping things on track like a well-trained service dog.
- Willingness to travel as needed to distribution centers across the country (PA, TX, IN, SC), with limited trips "out of the kennel."
