ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Operate Edmond Transit Management vehicles safely on prescribed scheduled routes as directed.
- Provide information to passengers in a courteous, efficient manner; use proper etiquette to assist passengers with disabilities.
Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Develop and maintain good working relationships with fellow employees.
Perform simple arithmetic.
- Keep bus comfortable; operate bus smoothly and safely; conduct daily vehicle inspections to ensure safety.
- Assist in the boarding of disabled customers who require the aid of accessible vehicles (wheelchairs / scooters) for the purpose of mobility.
Involves bending, stooping and twisting while securing belts and straps to ensure the patron and vehicle is tied down in a manner that ensures a safe ride (Ability to push pull wheelchair patrons).
Also requires full range of motion in turning of head and neck to shoulder in the normal defensive actions / motions of driving.
- Must be able to comply and meet the qualifications as outlined in Subpart E 391.33 Physical Qualifications and 391.43 Medical Examinations of the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR).
- Must comply with Edmond Transit Management’s Drug & Alcohol Testing Program as outlined in the Department of Transportation (DOT) & Federal Transit Administrations (FTA) 49 CFR Part 40 & CFR Part 655 to include the Company’s Substance Abuse Policy.

- Operate radio system in accordance with Edmond Transit Management’s established policies and procedures and the Federal Communication Commission (FCC).
- Announce major streets, stops and destinations per ADA regulations as designated by ETM.
- Prepare written reports on accidents, incidents, road damage, etc.
- Adhere to the uniform application of the Performance Code, Safety Procedures and Operational Bulletins as designated by ETM.
- Requires prolong sitting while driving / operating transit bus. Includes reaching above head to adjust mirrors and destination signs during pre-trip inspection.
Safety Sensitive Position
This position is identified as a safety-sensitive position. An employee in this position is required to participate in the Employer’s testing program for prohibited substances.
Participation in this program is a condition of employment. A safety-sensitive employee is subject to random testing for prohibited drug use or alcohol use.

Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :
MUST MEET ALL REQUIREMENTS - CDL is REQUIRED for PT CDL role.
High School Diploma or GED. Must possess and maintain a Commercial Class A or B or C CDL Driver’s License or Permit with Passenger & air brake endorsement (for A & B licenses).
Driver’s history report from Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), documenting driving record for past three to five years.
Must be at least 21 years of age. Five years experience in the operation of a motor vehicle preferred. No more than six (6) points for moving violations during past three (3) years.
this will be assessed and determined by Edmond Transit Management). Accidents are also considered when reviewing DMV Reports (multiple accidents could disqualify applicants).
No driving While Intoxicated (DWI) conviction within last three (3) years, and no more than one (1) DWI on driving history.
Must have excellent customer service skills and ability to deal courteously with the public. Ability to assist wheelchair / scooters bound disabled customers in boarding and de-boarding bus (requires bending, pushing, pulling, stooping and twisting on occasion while assisting wheelchair / scooters customers.
Long periods of sitting while driving / operating transit bus. Includes, reaching above head to adjust mirrors and destination signs during pre-trip inspections.
Must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) Physical (medical) examination, which includes an alcohol & drug screen. Per DOT / FTA standards Edmond Transit Management bus operators are subject to random alcohol & drug testing as a condition of continued employment.
A criminal background check will be completed and assessed by Edmond Transit Management on viable candidates. Must be able to work variable shifts and irregular hours.
Must be able to communicate in the English Language both orally and written.
Summary
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES :
Safely operate transit buses of varying sizes transporting customers within routes established by the City of Edmond in accordance with applicable Edmond Transit Management work rules, policies, and procedures.
Includes adherence to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and other state and local traffic laws. Must meet Department of Transportation Physical Standards.
