Pool Director (Seasonal)

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for safety, administration, and coordination of all summer pool programs. Responsible for supervising, scheduling and coordinating, and ongoing training of the seasonal lifeguard staff.

Responsible for the safety and well-being of all participants following applicable state regulations, ACA Standards, Girl Scout Safety Activity Checkpoints, ARC lifeguarding, and GSOFCT policies.

Record keeping and pool maintenance as assigned.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES :

• Clearly communicates the standards from the writing standard operating procedures (SOPs) with the lifeguard staff, ensures safety procedures, including but not limited to buddy checks, buddy boards, and swim testing are completed within scope of SOP.
• Supervises lifeguard staff. Clearly communicates performance expectations, and conducts supervisory conferences, regular written observations, and performance evaluations of staff individually and as a team.
• Schedules lifeguards for pool coverage at minimum two weeks in advance and in writing to ensure coverage for summer camper and weekend / evening programs when the pool is open.

Fills in or provides alternates when staff call out from work to ensure adequate coverage for swimmers.

• Follows and enforces Seasonal Staff Personnel Policies. Provides conflict resolution and problem solving with staff as needed.
• Maintains health and safety standards for participants, staff, and self.
• Ensures that well-equipped first aid kits are maintained and available; ensures materials needed for lifeguard drills are available and well maintained.
• Ensures all health, safety and program standards are followed at all times in compliance with state regulations, ACA Standards, Girl Scout Safety Activity Checkpoints, and GSOFCT policies;

to include swim tests, buddy boards, and buddy check processes.

• Performs emergency procedures and drills as it pertains to all aquatics programs.
• Assumes responsibility for the care and use of pool, aquatics buildings, life saving equipment, and other supplies / equipment used.
• Keep records, reports, and submits maintenance requisitions as necessary.
• Oversees and participates in opening and closing procedures of the pools daily during the summer season, as well as pool testing as required during the day.
• Maintain professional relationships with participants and staff throughout the summer season.
• Maintains ongoing communication with their supervisor about upcoming pool activities, problems and concerns.
• Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES :

• 21 years of age
• Minimum of 6 weeks supervisor experience in an aquatic setting
• Ability to work with a diverse group of staff, and participants (background and abilities).
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and physically able to endure out-of-doors work environment in extreme weather conditions.
• The ideal candidate will possess management experience which relates to job responsibilities including successful experience in lifeguarding, group leadership, and organizational skills.

Must possess experience working with children and families. Must demonstrate his / her lifeguarding and swimming competency skills.

The candidate must show willingness to abide by the policies and practices of Girl Scouts of Connecticut.

EDUCATION :

High School graduate or its equivalent. Bachelors Degree preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS :

Current Lifeguard, AED / CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certifications are required.

Current Lifeguard Management preferred. Current Water Safety Instructor preferred.
