We are looking for a Principal Process Engineer with a materials background to join our Operations team at LightForce Orthodontics.

The Principal Process Engineer will play a pivotal role in leading and optimizing complex processes related to material handling, processing, and production.

This position requires a deep understanding of material properties, process engineering principles, and a strategic approach to process improvement.

The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem solver with a proven track record in driving process efficiency and innovation.

As a senior member of the engineering team, your expertise and guidance will be an important driver for the success of the team.

The strategic roadmap for project execution will be driven by your input and decision making.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Process Optimization : Lead efforts to enhance existing processes, focusing on improving efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.

Utilize advanced engineering principles and materials science knowledge to develop and implement innovative solutions.

Materials Expertise : Apply a deep understanding of material properties, behavior, and processing techniques to solve complex engineering challenges.

Guide material selection, testing, and validation to ensure optimal performance in manufacturing processes.

  • Project Leadership : Oversee and manage multiple projects from conception through execution. Coordinate cross-functional teams, set project goals, establish timelines, and ensure successful delivery within scope and budget.
  • Data Analysis : Utilize data-driven approaches to analyze process performance, identify trends, and develop actionable insights.

Implement statistical and computational tools to support process improvements and decision-making.

Collaboration and Mentorship : Work closely with R&D, production, and quality teams to ensure seamless integration of new processes and materials.

Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.

Regulatory Compliance : Ensure that all processes and materials comply with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols.

Stay updated on relevant regulations and best practices to maintain compliance.

Innovation and Development : Drive continuous improvement by researching and integrating new technologies, materials, and methodologies.

Evaluate emerging trends and incorporate cutting-edge techniques to enhance process capabilities.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in process engineering with a focus on materials science. Proven experience in leading complex projects and process optimization in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Bachelors degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. A Masters degree or PhD is preferred.

Required Qualifications

  • Technical Skills : Strong knowledge of materials science, including properties, behavior, and processing techniques. Proficiency in process modeling, simulation, and optimization tools.
  • Analytical Abilities : Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex data and develop effective solutions.

Experience with statistical analysis and data-driven decision-making.

  • Leadership : Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage projects, and mentor junior engineers. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Regulatory Knowledge : Familiarity with industry regulations, quality standards, and safety protocols relevant to materials processing and manufacturing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ISO 13845, ISO 9001, and / or medical device regulation is a plus
  • Experience in project management methodologies is a plus
  • Experience working in a startup environment is a plus
  • Experience with additive manufacturing is a plus
  • Experience with QuickSight, Jira, and / or GitHub is a plus

Physical Demands

  • Requires the ability to use hands, and reach with hands and arms
  • Requires the ability to see, listen, and speak
  • Requires work activities with production chemicals, adhesives and epoxies, using required personal protective equipment
  • Requires walking and standing for long periods of time
