Position Summary

Process, in all aspects, any incoming request for conflict search, matter processing, or research, with a dedicated focus on analytical aspects.

Handle additional extra projects for areas of strength and expertise. Provide conflicts analysis and obtain related clearances and approvals.

General Counsel : New Business

White & Case opens more than 13,000 matters every year, or 1 matter per hour, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Playing a key role in assisting Partners and fee earners to identify potential conflicts of interest during new business intake, you will work at the heart of the Firm’s operations and as a trusted advisor to our lawyers.

Combining both sound commercial judgement and effective communication skills, you will support the Office of the General Counsel (OGC) in handling all aspects relating to incoming new business for new clients or existing clients.

This includes conflict searches, opening entries, fee approvals and new matter activation. You will also handle many matter lifecycle aspects of an existing matter including changes to matter details, changes to the parties involved and all reactivation requests.

We are committed to clearing conflicts on incoming matters to provide expedited approval, and provide services from offices in Manila, New York, Paris and Tampa.

Duties and Accountabilities1

  • Ability to perform all the responsibilities of a Conflict Analyst position.
  • Facilitate direct conflict clearances with no direction.
  • Resolve complex issues by reaching out to Partners, industry approval groups, GC team, etc., to determine appropriateness of Firm’s new businesses.
  • Facilitate special projects as a matter expert.
  • Complete and comprehensive understanding of legal terminology.
  • Ability and confidence to handle ad-hoc presentations.
  • Handle additional extra projects for areas of strength and expertise.
  • Be knowledgeable in industry current events.
  • Provide assistance to Leadership when needed.
  • Review and communicate with General Counsel(s) for direction and guidance and approval of special considerations.
  • Train and work with Analysts to facilitate direct conflict clearances with no direction.
  • Work with Analysts by overseeing special projects as a matter expert.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to enhance the skills of others.
  • Be familiar with multi-jurisdictional ethical regulations.
  • Ability to handle expedited review and conflict approval when requested.

Additional Responsibilities :

Performs any other responsibilities that may be assigned by Management.

Qualifications

  • Experience at or currently employed at a reasonably-sized law firm required
  • College degree preferred, high school diploma mandatory
  • Conflicts experience preferred
  • International experience a plus
  • Intellectual curiosity, creative thinker
  • Ability to see the big picture
  • Outstanding communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong time management skills, ability to stay calm under pressure when juggling multiple tasks
  • Client service focus
  • Flexible for overtime needs at short notice
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality on all levels including, but not limited to, firm activity, departmental processes, firm personnel activity
  • Team player
  • Intapp or other conflicts system knowledge preferred
  • Proactive, resourceful, takes initiative
  • Fluency in English

This is a staff role based in Tampa. This role reports to senior management.
