The Aquatics Director oversees rigorous staff training, performance evaluations, and maintains comprehensive instructor guides.
This role involves managing youth program enrollments, supervising classroom and aquatic instruction, and ensuring smooth daily operations, particularly during the active summer months.
Additionally, the Aquatics Director is responsible for financial planning, billing, and fostering collaboration for event scheduling, while also addressing participant behavior and representing the department at major club events.
Responsibilities
- Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in written documents with staff, volunteers and community leaders and collaborators.
- Ensure that branch aquatic facilities and off-site facilities meet requirements, guidelines and association policies / procedures related to the expectations as well as state and local health codes.
- Directly responsible for risk management programs as it relates to the aquatic facilities.
- Ensure a safe and healthy environment for all program participants.
- Accepts and directs complaints or concerns to appropriate branch personnel.
- Be available for assistance to branches for any area concerning aquatics, aquatic safety, programs, staffing, legal issues or training.
- Hire all aquatic staff including lifeguards, swim instructors, water exercise instructors and aquatic coordinators.
- Routinely clean and sanitize facilities, equipment and supplies.
- Develop and maintain high-quality, year-round youth programming that appeals to the interests of members.
- Provide opportunities for the pursuit of all levels of youth interest.
- Structure quality coaching and appropriately sized classes to provide personal attention to all participants.
- Set and strive to achieve goals and objectives in pursuit of making the youth program the best in the area.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with all participating members, staff, and volunteers.
- Promote the brand with the utmost service and professionalism.
- Attend all scheduled monthly Youth Activities Committee meetings and support ongoing initiatives.
- Conduct consistent, thorough onboarding, orientation, training, and performance reviews for all department staff and maintain current and detailed instructor manuals.
- Develop, maintain, and communicate all materials and documents necessary for youth program enrollment.
- Supervise both classrooms and in-water instruction of each class and each instructor.
- Conduct weekly staff meetings during the summer and regular offseason meetings to ensure informed and successful program operations.
- Develop an annual departmental financial plan (budget) in accordance with financial planning processes and actively manage to achieve or exceed departmental financial performance.
- Ensure complete and timely billing of all program fees and payment of departmental expenses.
- Prepare and host annual parent orientation in advance of summer program start.
- Monitor and respond to behavioral issues of participants.
- Collaborate with Race Director and Sailing Director to establish and manage the calendar for all youth and family events.
- Attend all major club functions as the representative of the department.
