Environmental Scientist

JOB SUMMARY :

The Environmental Scientist is a position responsible for supporting environmental site assessments, contaminated sites investigation and characterization, remediation, waste disposal, preparing regulatory permit applications, record-keeping, and environmental compliance consulting services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Provide technical support to ACES’ senior staff working in our contaminated site assessment / remediation program; hydrogeology;

and environmental risk management studies and services and remediation design and regulatory agency consultations.

  • Take direction from lead environmental scientist / staff to grow skillsets to become an Alaska DEC Qualified Environmental Professional
  • Interface directly with ACES staff to understand client needs and develop proposals, scope, costs, schedule, and budgets.
  • Support preparation of technical reports, proposals, and cost estimates
  • Perform routine office activities.
  • Conduct and lead field environmental assessment (Phase I / II / III ESA), and compliance activities.
  • Conduct literature research, compile resource data, and prepare regulatory permit applications, right-of-way applications, and other regulatory documents for various projects.
  • Comply with Company and customer policies and procedures.
  • Support ACES zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.
  • Other duties will be assigned to this position as needs require.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE :

  • High School diploma required.
  • Ability to spend up to 12-hour workday in remote Alaska conditions over extended periods of time (generally 2-3 weeks at a time)
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite applications required.
  • Must have at least 4-6 years of environmental site assessment and / or regulatory permitting experience. 2 years of experience must be in Alaska.
  • Must be an Alaska DEC Qualified Sampler
  • Become proficient with North Slope Red Book waste handling guidelines.
  • Must be able to work / commute to Anchorage, Alaska at your own expense.
  • Driver’s License required.

Certifications (Company provided-must complete training within 3 months of hire) :

  • North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) safety training certification required.
  • OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hr certification

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, chemistry, or related field preferred.
  • Experience in Alaska Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (APDES) and or oil spill response planning preferred.
  • Experience in performing environmental site assessments and remediation design for federally funded projects.
  • Understand the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process and Geographic Information System (GIS) preferred.
  • Alaska North Slope oil and gas field experience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT :
