As a Machine Vision Systems Development Engineer Science Enginee in the global Operations Innovation team at Medtronic, your role is crucial in developing machine vision technology and manufacturing equipment systems for automated inspection of high-quality components used in medical devices.
Your work will contribute to improving the efficiency, accuracy, and reliability of manufacturing processes across Medtronic's 70 global manufacturing facilities. ().
A Day in the Life
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
- Design and optimize image acquisition manufacturing equipment systems, including camera selection, optic lens selection, lighting, and calibration techniques.
- Leverage commercial machine vision technologies such as Cognex, Keyence, Halcon, LMI and / or GigE components, where appropriate.
- Collaborate with internal and external resources to integrate machine vision manufacturing equipment systems into manufacturing processes, ensuring seamless operation and compatibility.
- Develop and implement machine vision algorithms and systems for product quality, including image processing, object detection, recognition, and tracking.
- Conduct feasibility studies, performance evaluations, including validation and verification (FAT / SAT) activities of machine vision manufacturing equipment systems.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in machine vision technology imaging techniques and apply them to enhance our product quality.
- Collaborate with regulatory and quality teams to ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations governing medical devices.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise for machine vision-related manufacturing equipment issues during the product development lifecycle.
- Document and maintain comprehensive design specifications, test protocols, and reports.
- Lead your own projects, synthesize requirements, and provide optimal technology solutions with an effective roadmap for the development of vision hardware and analytics applications.
Must Have : Minimum Requirements
- Bachelors degree required
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience
Nice to Have
- At least 3-5 years Vision and Automation manufacturing equipment system design experience.
- Expertise with 2D and 3D hardware components commonly used in machine vision equipment systems, including cameras, lenses, lighting, and frame grabbers.
- Solid understanding of machine vision principles and image processing techniques
- Experience in developing and implementing machine vision systems, preferably in the medical device industry.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex requirements into practical solutions.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, with the capacity to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience deploying AI and deep learning algorithms to production is a plus.
- Experience with regulatory requirements and standards for medical devices is a plus.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment and find creative solutions for technology development roadblocks.
- Ability to work both individually and collaboratively in teams to achieve project goals.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Willingness to travel up to 20% depending on project phases.
