Job Summary :
Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, the Medical Assistant performs a variety of tasks related to patient care and follow-up.
As a team member, the Medical Assistant will demonstrate knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with the staff, patients, families and visitors of all age groups, while being sensitive to their culture and religious beliefs.
This position will work a rotating shift, including every other weekend.
Job Responsibilities :
- Prepare patients in a timely and appropriate manner
- Demonstrate the ability to access and assist patients in emergency situations
- Interviews patients, measure vital signs, including weight, height, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and document correct information in medical record
- Assist the provider as needed during exams
- Update and maintain all digital client records
- Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies and maintain instruments
- Anticipates and prepares supplies needed for procedures to expedite patient care
- Clean dirty instruments and properly prepare them for sterilization
- Triage and process messages from patients and front office staff to physician
- Instruct patients on collection of any necessary samples and tests
- Assist with lab testing and phlebotomy
- Clean rooms at the end of day, wipe down tables, chairs and countertops
- Willingness to assist providers, nurses and the front office as needed
- Prompt in following the provider's orders
- Demonstrate flexibility in job duties
- Demonstrate appropriate documentation in the EMR
- Possess the knowledge to operate clinical equipment
- Demonstrate a caring and compassionate attitude toward patients and staff
- Effectively communicates with the provider
- Adheres to infection-control policies using universal precautions at all times and PPE as appropriate
- Assist with medical record scanning as needed
Job Requirements :
- Current Certified Medical Assistant
- Current Phlebotomy certificate
- One year of clinical work experience
- Current CPR Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association
- Basic knowledge of clinical operations
- Demonstrates skills in written and oral communication
- Ability to comprehend and perform duties with minimal supervision
- Ability to prioritize work and accept constructive criticism
- Ability to prepare reports and follow-up as necessary
- Must continuously listen, visualize and have dexterity and eye-hand coordination
- Must have full range of body motion
- Must frequently sit, reach, use both right and left forearm rotation, walk, stand, kneel and twist
Physical and Other Requirements :
- Must be able to pass criminal background check, drug screen and physical assessment
- Must occasionally kneel, twist and have ability to grasp firmly
- Must lift and carry, push and pull in excess of 50lbs
