The UCLA Institute for Research on Labor and Employment is looking for an Academic Coordinator, who will manage research, public engagement, and educational programs with a focus on labor policy and labor history.

Working under the direction of the IRLE Director, the candidate will engage in the following areas :

Public Engagement Program Coordination

  • Organize educational events with scholars, students, labor and community groups, and policymakers highlighting timely and impactful labor policy and labor history research.
  • Work with IRLE communications staff to disseminate content of interest to IRLE communities.
  • Develop partnerships between university, labor, and community groups to address timely labor and workplace, education, and immigration issues.
  • Facilitate undergraduate and graduate student engagement with IRLE public programs.
  • Liaison with professional and community organizations with interests in labor policy and labor history.

Research Coordination

  • Coordinate research projects within the IRLE focused on labor policy and labor history.
  • Coordinate creation of research reports and online content focused on labor policy and history.
  • Support research engagement between faculty and research staff working within IRLE units.
  • Represent IRLE at conferences and before labor and community constituents on issues related to candidate’s academic expertise and of interest to IRLE and Labor Studies constituencies.
  • Promote labor research, broadly defined, within California higher education through collaborations with researchers on UC and CSU campuses.
  • Advise undergraduate and graduate students associated with Labor Studies and the IRLE.

Grant Writing

  • Identify and apply for contracts and grants to support the Institute’s research, teaching, and community service activities with a focus on labor policy and labor history.
  • Write and direct grant proposals and reports.
  • Develop collaborative projects with labor and community organizations to secure funding for the IRLE.

Requirements :

Candidates must have a master’s degree or equivalent in history or related social science field with a focus on labor and working-class history or labor policy.

The experience expected from applicants, as well as additional skills and qualifications needed for this job are listed below.

Candidates must have at least five years of experience in worker education, labor research and teaching, and / or union administration.

Salary Range :

1. See Table 36 for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $62,236-$118,480.
