Accountant

Under guidance from the Controller, the staff accountant will be primarily responsible for all payroll and grant reporting duties.

Responsibilities Responsible for timely and accurate grant invoicing, draw-downs and reporting. Reconciles grant reports with the budget and general ledger.

Assists Program Directors / Project Coordinators in investigating budget variances and timely grant spending. Completes full-cycle payroll process, which includes reviewing payroll ledger for accuracy.

Completes and reconciles payroll transmittal. Process and maintains employee payroll database and other records. Responsible for tracking, reconciliations, and payment of all benefits.

Responsible to back up accounts payable and accounts receivable functions. Responsible for general ledger entries, reconciliations, and investigating variances.

Prepare financial analysis and provide expert financial perspective and opinions. Responsible for fixed asset tracking and maintaining database.

Performs other related duties, as assigned. Supervisory Duties : none Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree is required.

An accounting degree or related field with at least 2 years of accounting experience preferred. Professional experience working in a non-profit environment preferred.

Grant administration experience preferred. Strong computer skills. Must be proficient in developing complex spreadsheets.

Strong verbal and written communication skills. Exposures : Controlled inside work environment with noise / vibrations from general office equipment.

Minimal exposure to fumes / dust / odors. Requires extensive work using a computer. Physical Demands Work Type : Light, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and / or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Climbing / Balancing / Freedom to Move : Minimal required to move about office. Sit about 75 percent of time. Stooping / Bending : Frequently.

Reaching : Occasional, overhead as well as horizontal and down. Vision : Adequate to perform essential functions. Color vision : No particular color vision requirement.

Hearing : Frequently perceive nature of sounds by ear. Speech : Frequently express ideas by means of spoken words. Eye / Hand / Foot Coordination : Frequently operates equipment requiring moderate ability.
