The Safety Specialist KCJC ensures and provides direct and related security services at the Kenosha County Job Center / Human Services Building.
RESPONSIBILITY LEVEL :
Ensures and provides direct and related security services to the Kenosha County Job Center / Human Services Building. Responsible for providing emergency response to situations at KCJC / HSB involving safety and medical, patrolling the building and surrounding grounds and actively intervening in situations that may be potentially disruptive or harmful.
Position requires a keen attention to detail, knowledge of safety related practices, procedures and use of effective de-escalation techniques.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES :
1. Provide an effective visible deterrence to crime and prohibited activities through patrolling the facility and adjacent grounds.
2. Conduct initial investigations of discovered and / or reported incidents and prepare detailed, accurate and legible written reports.
3. Provide 1033 (emergency) response to sensitive, volatile and medical situations, including monitoring and coordination of related emergency procedures.
4. Respond to, evaluate, and / or treat Medical Emergencies within the facility within the guidelines of the DHS Emergency Procedures.
5. Respond to and actively intervene in situations involving agitated, aggressive or disruptive persons within the facility following the guidelines of the KCDHS Emergency Policies and Procedures.
6. Complete the DHS Building Incident Report within 24 hours of the incident.
7. Maintain familiarity with the individuals on the 1033 Alert List as well as the 1033 Alert Procedure; respond accordingly.
8. Monitor KCJC / HSB; be alert and watchful for any activities which could result in the injury to a person or the damage or loss of facility property.
9. Communicate in an effective professional manner to visitors, participants, employees and supervisors.
10. Direct participants / visitors to the appropriate divisions, agencies, organization or services when patrolling the facility and adjacent grounds.
11. Maintain a positive working relationship with all facility personnel.
12. Maintain a thorough knowledge of the facility, the DHS Emergency Policies and Procedures and any problems or situations unique to the facility.
13. Ability to work with and retain information confidentially in both written and verbal form.
14. Attend Safety / Security Advisory Groups as scheduled.
15. Represent the DHS Safety Coordinator at Safety / Security meetings in her absence.
16. Complete any required reports and / or documentation within 24 hours of the incident as per the DHS Emergency Procedures.
17. Provide input in the planning and implementation of the DHS Emergency Policies and Procedures.
18. Collect DHS Incident Reports from all parties involved in a 1033 incident.
19. Add individuals to the 1033 Alert List in the absence of the Safety Coordinator.
REQUIREMENTS :
1. High school diploma or GED minimum.
2. A minimum of 3 continuous years of security experience, or experience as public safety officer, with developed soft skills to work within a public contact environment.
Security or police science background preferred.
3. Certification in First Aid, CPR and use of an AED (or willingness to become certified upon employment).
4. Crisis Intervention Partner Training within 12 months of employment.
5. Training / certification in Bloodborne Pathogens (or willingness to become certified upon employment).

5. Ability to assist a sick and / or injured persons weighing in excess of 75 pounds get into a wheel chair or stationary chair.
6. Ability to perform duties in adverse weather conditions including but not limited to extreme cold, heat, dry or wet conditions.
7. Able to function in an area with possible exposure to blood and other potentially infectious material.
