Title : Director of Religious Education

Location : St. Thomas More Parish Sarasota, FL
Classification : Salaried / Exempt
Overview
The Director of Religious Education will plan, integrate, implement, oversee, and evaluate the religious education / faith formation of the total Parish community.
Job Responsibilities
- Administer catechetical programs : Faith Formation in Grades K-10, Sacramental Preparation, Home School Supervision, Adult Faith Formation and Catholic school retreats and services regarding religious education.
- Assist the Pastor in planning catechetical programs to meet both short and long-term goals
- Prepare and administer the Religious Education operating budgets in accordance with budget policies
- Collaborate and communicate with the Pastor and other Parish ministries on an on-going basis regarding scheduling and promotion of events related to catechetical programs
- Develop plans and implement for the recruitment and training of catechists and volunteers
- Schedule regular catechist and volunteer meetings to encourage the development of a catechetical faith community
- Assist catechists, Catholic school teachers, and volunteers with their certification requirements
- Meet the requirements of safe environment policies in regarding Safe Environment Training for Youth
- Act as a liaison between the Parish and the Diocesan Office of Religious Education
- Continue personal growth in faith and professional advancement
- Attend Diocesan meetings related to Religious Education
- Other duties as assigned by Pastor.
Requirements
- Must be a practicing Roman Catholic
- Master’s Degree in Religious Education, Theology or Catechetics and Evangelization
- Five years of experience overseeing a religious education or faith formation program in a Parish setting
- Excellent communications skills both written and oral
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to select and train volunteer teachers
