Overview
Under general supervision and reporting to the Manager of HIM, the Senior HIM Processor is responsible for processing release of medical information requests, review of charts for physician incomplete and missing documents according to Hospital Policy and Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules and Regulations, processing medical records, performing analysis on medical records and providing excellent customer service for requests.
Responsibilities
Record Processing
- Preps record for scanning by removing staples, remove paper clips, taped torn pages, ensure medical records are on 8.5 x 11 paper, ensure each page has the correct patient record and episode / date of service.
- Performs quality checks on all images to assure accuracy, confidentiality, and proper scanning.
- Ensures each image is scanned into the correct patient record, each image is scanned into the correct episode / date of service, each page is properly indexed and unnecessary pages are removed.
Administrative
- Answers, evaluates and prioritizes incoming customer calls as needed.
- When requested, returns faxes in a timely manner.
- Assists in purging charts as scheduled and according to guidelines.
- Maintains documentation of all processes as required in HIM Department.
- Meets productivity and quality standards as established in HIM Department.
- Performs Release of Information (ROI) to all requesters according to policy and HIPAA Laws.
- Assists with deficiency and delinquency reports and notifications to physicians.
- Performs logging of work referred to external copy service.
Data Integrity
- Demonstrates and maintains patient confidentiality to protect the patient.
- Remains knowledgeable of imaging standards, policies and procedures and HIPAA regulations to work in compliance of these and other standards.
- Performs analysis on all records according to HIM Work Instructions
Staff development
Participates in new hire training and Department orientation under the supervision of the Manager.
Compliance / Safety
Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas / RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs;
performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.
- Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations / statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.
- If required for the position, ensures all certifications and / or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.
- Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.
Qualifications
Education
High School graduate, GED or 3 year's experience in similar field - Required
College courses in Health Information Management - Preferred
Certification & Licensures
Experience
EMR experience- Preferred
1 - 2 years working in a Healthcare Environment- Preferred
Medical Terminology- Preferred
