Under the direction and supervision of the Nurse Practitioner (NP), the Cardiac Surgery NP will perform all required clinical duties, including patient evaluation and management in the preoperative, postoperative, and outpatient settings as well as performing ICU bedside procedures (e.
g. arterial line and central line insertion), endovascular vein harvesting, and first assisting cardiac surgical procedures (e.
g. CABG, valve surgery, aorta surgery).
Responsibilities will include :
- Working collaboratively with clinical teams in managing cardiac surgery patients in the pre-operative, peri-operative, post-operative, and outpatient environments.
- Collecting data pertinent to the patient’s health and situation including interpreting diagnostic tests and procedures relevant to the patient’s status, and performing minor surgical procedures (such as vein harvesting).
- Formulating a treatment plan for cardiac problems within scope of practice. Implementing therapeutic intervention for specific conditions when appropriate.
Exercising judgment on problems requiring consultation, referral, or evaluation by the supervising cardiac surgeon, or other health care professionals.
- Comparing and contrasting clinical findings, normal and abnormal variations in formulating a diagnosis.
- Identifying assessment, diagnostic strategies, and therapeutic interventions within the plan that reflect current evidence, including data, research, literature, and expert clinical knowledge;
collaborates with physician on the plan as needed.
Using current health care research findings and other evidence to expand clinical knowledge, enhance role performance, and increase knowledge of professional issues.
Requirements include :
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
- 6+ years of related Cardiac Surgery clinical experience as an ACNP.
- Current License as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in the state of Maryland.
