the American College of Nurse-Midwives two core documents, (a) the Standards for the
Practice of Midwifery and (b) Core Competencies for Basic Midwifery Practice. The
day-day practice of medicine, nurse-midwifery and health care in general rapidly
changes with advancing science, pharmacotherapeutics, and technology. It is therefore
the responsibility of the clinician to remain current with management of those under
their care. Resources for management may include but not limited to : Up-To-Date;
ACOG and ACNM publications; Varneys Midwifery; and, Clinical Practice Guidelines
for Midwifery and Womens Health, 5th Ed. Care provided may deviate from
recommended standards based on collaboration with the physician considering unique
needs and desires of the patient and documented as such.
