Special Note This is a full-time, overtime eligible, project position in Facilities Services on the Olympia and Tacoma campuses of The Evergreen State College.
This project position is funded through June 30, 2025. Position Purpose This position reports to the Assistant Facilities Services Manager and is responsible for performing journey level masonry, concrete, and bricklaying work.
The incumbent works independently in brick installation and repair assignments. Nature and Scope Essential Functions
- Perform journey level maintenance and repair of campus facilities in masonry, concrete, bricklaying independently.
- Pour concrete slabs, walkways, and ADA ramps, layout and build forms to meet specifications; accurately calculate and order required materials (yardage), cut, dismantle, remove, and properly dispose of old concrete, etc.
- Install and work from scaffolding, stages, planks, ladders, jacks, and other platforms.
- Maintain and comply with safety standards for the maintenance and construction trades.
- Complete general maintenance work orders related to masonry, concrete, and bricklaying.
- Prepare and clean surfaces by use of power washers, jack hammer, and power sanders.
- Drive service vehicles, as required and load and unload materials and supplies.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and other equipment, such as forklifts, tractor, man lifts, etc. as required.
- Attend meetings and training courses as assigned.
- Perform other related duties as required.

- Ability to work on scaffolding, stages, planks, ladders, jacks, and other platforms and at elevated heights.
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
- Physical ability to perform work that includes the ability to lift and move heavy materials up to 80 pounds unaided, push or pull equipment / materials, climb and balance on ladders using equipment, reach, stoop, twist and / or crouch, and perform repetitive motions.
- Ability to work at elevated heights, indoors and outdoors with extreme temperature differences, in confined spaces, and in environments in which dust, noise, and chemicals may be present.
Minimum Qualifications Desired Qualifications
Two years of experience in masonry, concrete, and brick laying.
Conditions of Employment
- Must provide proof of identity and employment eligibility within three days of beginning work.
- This position is part of a bargaining unit and covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
- Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position.
- Prior to an official offer of employment, a Declaration Regarding Sexual Misconduct form must be submitted to the college per RCW 28B.
112.080. The college will contact current and past employers to verify this information. Applicants who provide inaccurate information in their declaration will be disqualified and, if the inaccuracies are discovered after the applicant has been hired, it shall be grounds for termination.
Must meet the eligible driver requirements : 1) Valid U.S. driver’s license, 2) 18 years old or older, 3) Two or more years of fully licensed driving experience, and 4) Clean driving record with none of the following within the past 2 years : Any suspension / revocation of license for reckless driving, hit and run, leaving an accident scene, failure to appear, DUI or other vehicle-related felony;
or for multiple traffic offenses (2 moving violations / infractions in 12 months / 3 moving violations / infractions in 24 months) resulting in a Conditional Status driving record or subsequent suspension / revocation of license.
