Hiring Pay Range : $19.00 - $24.25 Hourly

Full Pay Range : $19.00 - $29.50 Hourly

Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification.

This position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

About the Position

Are you an innovative and enthusiastic animal advocate looking to play a key role in finding shelter animals their forever home?

As an Alternative Placement Coordinator, you will be responsible for coordinating efforts to increase the placement of sheltered pets out of Maricopa County Animal Care and Control (MCACC) care.

This includes those animals needing critical and / or temporary support to efficiently place them into permanent or temporary transfer outlets.

We Require

Two years of experience working with animals in an animal welfare organization, veterinary facility, humane society, or similar animal care facility;

may include volunteer work

High School Diploma or GED

An equivalent combination of post-secondary education may substitute for up to one year of the required experience

We Also Value

Additional skills with animal behavior and handling techniques

Experience working in a high-volume customer service job

Experience handling newborn and young dogs and cats

Job Contributions

Provide exceptional customer service by responding promptly to communications from transfer organizations and fosters while cultivating and nurturing new and existing relationships with contracted community partners

Identify animals requiring alternative placement and coordinate movement to the appropriate and approved transfer organizations and / or fosters.

Act as the primary liaison between transfer organizations and shelter staff

Manage animals through the system, ensuring efficient permanent outcomes, including receiving and discharging identified animals

Maintain accurate record entry, including data entry and statistical reporting, as well as managing the associated programs and database

Assure that all fosters receive the necessary training and mentorship to perform their responsibilities, including orientation, materials

Ensure all shelter policies and procedures are followed and adhered to by transfer organizations and fosters and report discrepancies

Schedule identified animals for proper vaccine and health check-ups and coordinate with the shelter's clinical team to ensure the continued health of fostered animals

Participate in MCACC special events and projects as needed and assigned, including adoption events, animal transport, tours, and public education programs, including ensuring animals in foster are ready and available for offsite events

Generate positive relations with the general public, volunteers, and team members while promoting MCACC programs, policies, mission, and vision.

Proactively address customer needs and ensure a high quality of customer care is provided

Working Conditions

The position is in an animal shelter environment. Due to the nature of shelter work, may be exposed to deceased, fractious, or reactive animals;

hostile or irate persons; zoonotic or other diseases; unpleasant noises, odors, or sights; and extreme temperatures

Consistently exposed to animals and animal allergens under conditions with limited alterations available

Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly

Must be available to work day or evening shifts any day of the week, including holidays
