Primary Function : Responsible for conducting group and individual interventions and using creative activities to help people with disabilities improve their physical and mental health.
Performance Responsibilities : Although each position has its own unique duties and responsibilities, the following listing applies to every employee of North Jersey Friendship House, Inc. :
- Works towards the accomplishment of department / Agency goals
- Maintains confidentiality and immediately reports to management breaches in confidentiality.
- Practices job requirements on an accurate, timely and regular basis
- Observes and maintains appropriate professional boundaries with members, co-workers,
- and supervisors
- Attends all scheduled meetings as assigned.
- Meets relevant continuing educational / training requirements.
- Completes all required documentation / paperwork accurately and within established time frames.
- Completes all assigned College of Direct Support and / or Relias trainings as assigned.
Essential Functions Include :
- Utilizes observation, medical records, tests, direct interview, and team discussions to understand a member's goals and skill needs.
- Contributes to the development of each member's IRP in collaboration with the counselors.
- Leads therapeutic activities during group and individual sessions that aim at addressing member's goals and developing necessary skills.
- Actively addresses the development of social and other community interaction skills needed to maximize potential for independence.
- Develops and implements strategies that assist members in reducing and coping with stress, anxiety, or depression.
- Completes required documentation in a timely and accurate manner that reflects the member's progress and contributes to modifying IRP's as needed.
- Communicates actively with members, family members, staff, and other treatment team members.
- Ensures the health and safety of all members and staff by following all applicable policies and procedures.
- Plans all of their own group activities and offers ideas for enhancement of other groups and activities in the program.
Requirements :
- S. In Recreation Therapy - or 1 year from graduation
- At least 1-2 years of experience in a psychiatric setting or program for adults with disabilities
- Valid driver's license with clean record
