This is an in-office role.

The specialist is responsible for developing, planning, implementing, delivering, and evaluating orientation for newly hired staff and the on-going training and development of the Family Services department and staff.

The specialist serves as a consultant and mentor to Family Services Department members. Supports and fosters the mission, vision, and core values of LiveOnNY and its commitment to organ and tissue donation.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Maintains current knowledge of educational and training requirements, as well as best practices for Family Services staff and the authorization staff.

Ensures that staff training aligns with current policy and practices.

  • Develops, periodically evaluates, and delivers the curriculum used to train new family service coordinators.
  • Develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates the coursework (didactic, on-line, simulated, etc.) for the authorization training program
  • Collaborates with department management to ensure all affected staff demonstrate acceptable levels of competency.
  • Observes staff on-site , at least once per week to educate and assess mastery of job skills and core competencies.
  • Coordinates orientation and onboarding process of newly hired / transferred staff. Develops and maintains clinical resource materials.
  • Assists in the development and design of a preceptor program, for qualified staff, to train and mentor staff.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of competency evaluation tools that reflects the performance standards of an employee for successful completion of the introductory period and annual assessments.
  • Assesses educational needs of the organization through performance expectations, regulatory agency standards, industry standards and Process Transformation and Innovation departmental recommendations.

Identifies and recommends changes to improve performance standards of staff.

  • Collaborates with HR to maintain employee training files to ensure consistency and accurate educational documentation.
  • Participates in weekly Clinical OPS Meetings and Weekly Family Leadership Meetings.
  • May serve as Senior On-Call for overnight emergent phone approaches, high priority, or level one referral onsite family needs, including but not limited to emergent approaches, DCD OR family support, Honor Walk support, etc.
  • Reviews feedback on donors and donor process to improve quality of the process as warranted.
  • Ability to perform all essential duties of a Family Support Advocate is required.
  • Maybe assigned cases to maintain educational proficiency as needed.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE :

BA / BS in counseling, psychology or social services, crisis intervention, or education or two years’ experience in organ procurement consent, with proven track record, required.

Master’s degree in social work, or related field, is preferred.

  • Excellent knowledge of the dynamics of grief and bereavement.
  • Experience in trauma / critical care setting helpful.

LANGUAGE SKILLS :

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret healthcare periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.

Ability to prepare documents, write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from all levels of personnel, customers, and the public.

Ability to effectively present information to senior management, public groups, and / or boards of directors.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

Demonstrated project management and excellent interpersonal skills required. Must be able to design and implement training programs to suit a variety of learners and learning styles.

Ability to research information, draw conclusions, and make recommendations.

Knowledge of the principles of critical care. Knowledge of and ability to function in hospital setting. Ability to work with individual(s) in a bereavement / crisis, good interpersonal skills.

Ability to work as a team member.

  • Time Management and good organizational skills required.
  • Computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.

Salary Range : $105,000-$125,000
