SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 10 years of development experience with an emphasis on leadership and planned giving.
- Knowledge of gift planning vehicles such as charitable trusts, gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, charitable bequests, annual support strategies and other non-traditional gifts.
Experience working effectively with financial advisors and attorneys.
- A clear understanding of philanthropy and philanthropic practice, particularly the unique individual relationships required to secure planned gifts.
- Experience working within comprehensive fundraising campaigns is a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
- Creative thinking and demonstrated ability to affect growth in desired results.
- Strong interest in New York City museums, and the world of modern and contemporary art more generally
- High level of attention to detail, with an ability to analyze data, segment donor lists, and produce giving reports.
- Ability to function as a consummate, positive team player comfortable working with a wide range of people.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment a must.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following :
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward leadership ($100,000+) and planned giving donors through meetings, communications, visits, events, and other significant outreach.
- Work closely with Advancement and executive leaders to close leadership gifts, planned gifts, and blended gifts (outright and deferred in one gift plan) that will include but not be limited to bequest intentions, IRA-qualified charitable distributions, and retirement account death benefit designations, gifts of appreciated assets, charitable lead trusts, and gifts of real estate.
- Connect with donors, donor attorneys, trust officers, and financial and tax advisors to provide complete and accurate information about gift planning opportunities and Musem’s gift planning policies.
- Manage a growing leadership and planned giving team.
- Provide technical and strategic support to gift officers as necessary to assist with closing gifts; ensure gift officers have a minimum level of gift planning fluency to integrate within leadership and individual gifts.
- Direct new or current special initiatives as part of an upcoming comprehensive campaign and other philanthropic priorities.
- Partner with Advancement colleagues and the Communications team on the production of materials to support philanthropic initiatives aimed at attracting leadership and planned gifts.
- Contribute to the development and execution of a comprehensive stewardship plan, with focus on leadership and planned donors for a comprehensive campaign and special giving priorities to ensure donors feel informed, valued, and appreciated.
WORK DEMANDS and ENVIRONMENT :
- Ability to travel within the metropolitan area as required to perform the above duties as well as possible domestic and international travel.
- Must be able to attend evening and weekend events.
- Occasionally work may be conducted outdoors, with exposure to varied weather conditions.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on occasion.
- Ability to lift at least 25 lbs.

Bachelor’s Degree required, JD preferred
