Tooling Engineer

Responsibilities :
- Lead team in Design for Manufacturing activities and document risks and actions needed.
- Drive technical assistance and support to the production floor, which includes repair and modification of existing tooling and error proofing the manufacturing tools.
- Assist in design and build of prototype molds, new production molds, extrusion dies and mandrels, cutting tools and fixtures, pad printing, and holding fixtures to meet production requirements.
- Manage active tooling projects with outside suppliers; lead team review and approval of tool design prior to tool build.
- Travel to customer and supplier facilities as needed.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred but not required or experience in lieu of a degree, preferably Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience directly related to the job function.
- Minimum 5 years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
- Strong knowledge of mold design principles experience in tool design review activities. Supervisory experience in tooling related activities.
- Experience with high cavitation, tight tolerance tooling, preferably injection tooling.
- Functional knowledge of various runner configurations (conventional, semi-hot, open tip, valve gate, etc.), mold surface finish / texture solutions, experience in executing and reviewing mold flow analysis.
- Working knowledge of RJG and / or Primus control / monitoring systems.
- Basic knowledge of scientific molding principles.
- Business and management principles involved in leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
- Design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Strong analytical / troubleshooting skills, mechanical aptitude.
- Accurate and attention to detail.
- Excellent oral and written communication abilities, including presentation skills.
- Strong working skill in SolidWorks, must be able to design and modify drawings & models.
- Judgment and Decision Making - Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions.
Preferred :
- Experience with thermoplastic and silicone injection molds required.
- Mold Maker Apprenticeship Certificate (preferred).
