POSITION SUMMARY : Responsible for monitoring the behavior of students assigned to in-school suspension and provide guidance while they are in attendance to enhance the learning of all students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Works directly with classroom teachers to carry out specific tasks related to Long Term In School Suspension program.
- Maintains highly disciplined control in the classroom.
- Checks attendance daily and reports to attendance clerk.
- Learns techniques for implementing curriculum.
- Gathers materials from the teacher(s) for the suspension packets.
- Escorts students during break periods and lunch periods.
- Performs clerical duties as necessary.
- Assists teacher with carrying out his / her responsibilities by checking progress in class assignments.
- Assists the teacher in specific routine activities such as drills, reinforcement, developing verbal and listening communication skills, and demonstrating helping, guiding and interest-building exercises.
- Assists in the development of learning packets and other instructional aids.
- Provides feedback to teachers concerning each student’s progress and performance.
- Executes admittance slip when student is released.
- Counsels students as to the behavior which caused their assignment to in-school suspension.
- Assists with additional responsibilities and assignments as needed by the teacher or principal.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS :
- Bachelor’s degree in educational related field, teacher certification preferred
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and communication skills with staff, parents and patrons.
- Demonstrated success at designing and maintaining a positive, collaborative culture.
- Ability to interact with a wide variety of persons in a challenging setting.
EQUIPMENT USED :
Standard office equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT :
- Within assigned building(s) and classroom(s).
- Ability to work in a variety of locations and travel throughout the building(s), including lunch rooms and hallways.
- Duties will require the ability to meet the physical demands of handling a variety of student needs.
- Duties will require the ability to sit, talk, hear, walk, stand, see and reach.
- Ability to lift and / or move up to 10 pounds.
- Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
