Plains has an immediate opening for a GIS Specialist to join our Asset Management Team. Reporting to the Manager, Asset Management within our Operations Solution Delivery department, you will provide Geographic Information System (GIS) expertise in development and analysis to assist Plains’ business groups throughout North America.
In addition, you will design and implement elegant geospatial solutions that are delivered on time in fulfilment of business requirements, using the latest tools and technology.
This role may be based in either Houston or Calgary and some cross-border travel will be required.

Responsibilities :
- Develop complete design and architecture for web-enabled geospatial solutions.
- Leverage service-oriented architecture principles to create scalable and efficient systems.
- Lead and manage implementation projects.
- Integrate various applications and services across multiple areas (land, pipeline, facilities, regulatory, environment, etc.).
- Successfully implement efficient spatial ETL (extract, transform, load) processes using ESRI's native Python-based scripting (ArcPy), SAFE FME, and other modules.
- Assist the team in guiding a Cloud-based GIS infrastructure modernization initiative.
- Ensure timely data refreshes of large datasets and generate spatial features ready for consumption by clients (web / mobile or desktop).
- Implement and publish advanced geo-processing tasks to simplify user workflows.
- Enable business users to work seamlessly without dealing with complicated ESRI desktop environments.
- Apply advanced spatial analytical skills to implement complex geospatial business rules.
- Facilitate easy management of field activities performed by the workforce.
- Integrate ESRI web mapping solutions with core business applications.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, computer science, or related field required; certification in GIS technology / software an asset
- Minimum 8 years’ directly transferrable experience
- Expertise in both GIS development and analytical tools (ArcGIS Server architecture / configuration and map service design;
Portal for ArcGIS; ArcGIS Desktop; ArcSDE; geoprocessing tools; ModelBuilder; FME; ArcGIS APIs for JavaScript 4.X using Angular, React, or other modern frameworks)
- Proficiency with MS Excel and MS Access software
- Strong SQL skills using SQL Server (or Oracle)
- Development expertise in tools such as MS Visual Studio (C#, C / C++, VB, ASP .Net, MVC), Python, HTML / HTML5, JavaScript, jQuery / jqWidgets, Dojo, Node.
js, Bootstrap, Entity Framework, SSRS or Microsoft BI, and other relevant libraries
- Experience managing Azure resources an asset
- Ability to triage and rectify operational issues associated with Enterprise GIS technology and infrastructure
- Able to work independently with limited supervision and within a team
- Detail-oriented with proven analytical skills
- Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
- Proven organizational and time management skills
- Cleared criminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks
