Location flexibility : this position can sit out of Mooresville, Raleigh, Charlotte, NC or Greenville, SC offices.
Your Role
As an Instrumentation & NDE Technician, you will provide technical support for the design, development, and execution of structural testing, monitoring, and NDE projects. Your responsibilities will be a dynamic mix of office preparation and field execution.
In The Office & Lab Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and assembly of structural health monitoring systems.
- Develop clear and accurate instrumentation plans using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation).
- Program data acquisition systems (e.g., Campbell Scientific CRBasic, LabView, etc.).
- Develop and optimize MATLAB and Python scripts for automating NDE processing tasks.
- Manage, maintain, and calibrate an inventory of specialized testing and NDE equipment.
- Support planning, logistics, and preparation for field inspection and testing projects.
In The Field
Deploy, install, and troubleshoot sensors and data acquisition systems on bridges and other structures across the nation.Conduct structural load testing and long-term monitoring campaigns.Perform NDE on reinforced steel and concrete structures using various tools and techniques.Support bridge inspection teams in assessing structural conditions, identifying deterioration, and documenting findings.Adhere strictly to WSP's and site-specific safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for the entire team.General

Who We're Looking For
0-3 years of hands-on experience in a technical role involving electronics, mechanics, or field measurements, and data analysis.Foundational understanding of sensors, data acquisition systems, and / or NDE tools.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).Excellent attention to detail, with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both engineering and non-engineering audiences.Physically capable of performing field work including climbing ladders (up to 40ft) and in close quarters, carrying ladders and gear, working in adverse weather conditions, etc.Proficiency / Comfortable using hand and power tools.Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.Occasional travel / overnight travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements and project location.Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug / alcohol, and harassment policies.A valid US driver's license and a proven track record of upholding workplace safety.Must be authorized to work in the United States immediately.Ideal Candidates Will Also Have (Preferred Qualifications)
Associate's or Technical Degree in a relevant field such as Electronics Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Civil / Mechanical Engineering, or Physics.Direct experience programming data acquisition systems (CRBasic, LabView, or similar).Proficiency in MATLAB and Python.Experience creating technical drawings with drafting software (AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar).NDE Certifications (e.g., ASNT SNT-TC-1A Level I or II in Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), or Penetrant Testing (PT)).Enjoys getting out of the office, working outdoors, and seeing the world.Additional Role Information
Travel : This role requires regular travel, primarily within the US, but with potential for out-of-country assignments. Overnight travel can be expected and may sometimes extend beyond the typical workweek.Physical Demands : Candidates must be physically capable of performing demanding field work, including heights, ladders (up to 40 ft), confined spaces, carrying heavy equipment, and adverse weather conditions.Specialized Work : There is an opportunity for candidates interested in working at significant heights to obtain rope access certifications (e.g., SPRAT).About WSP
