Wilmington Friends School is a Preschool to 12 Quaker, college preparatory, day school located in Wilmington, Delaware and enrolling approximately 720 students, has an exciting employment opportunity for a full-time Upper School Computer Science teacher for the 2024-2025 school year.
A highly qualified candidate is one who :
- Has strong coursework (graduate level preferred) in teaching computer science
- Has experience teaching in an independent school
- Is passionate about programming and digital design, and can foster this same enthusiasm in young scholars
- Has experience teaching or can learn to teach applications and concepts including, but not limited to : Programming / Computational thinking concepts (Processing / Java, Python / Idle, Micro : Bit, Godot Game Engine and / or Unity Game Engine, HTML / CSS, etc.
Data analysis, data abstraction, algorithmic thinking and computational problem-solvingSTEM and project-based learning
- Is familiar with current research, trends, best practices and pedagogy
- Understands and loves working with high school aged students
- Is a collaborative colleague who embraces opportunities to work across grade levels and divisions
- Is committed to and interested in working in a diverse, multicultural environment
- Is willing and eager to take on significant co-curricular responsibilities outside of the classroom as assigned by the Upper School Division Head
Specifically, the highly qualified candidate will be able to teach all courses related to computer science, grades 9-12.
Experience working in the International Baccalaureate diploma program is desired.
Wilmington Friends School is an International Baccalaureate world school and offers the Diploma Programme in grades 11th and 12th.
All teachers and departments are expected to participate in the preparation of our students for this international standard.
