Role Description
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Manager to oversee and manage all payroll operations within our growing private equity-backed physician practice management business.
This role is essential in ensuring smooth payroll processes, particularly in the context of mergers and acquisitions (M&A).
The Payroll Manager will work closely with our HR, finance, and integration teams to ensure seamless payroll transitions for new acquisitions, compliance with payroll regulations, and overall operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Payroll Processing : Develop, manage, and execute end-to-end payroll processes for all employees, including salaried, hourly, and contract staff, using Paylocity software.
- Mergers & Acquisitions Support : Oversee payroll integration during mergers and acquisitions, ensuring accurate employee data migration and timely payroll processing for newly acquired practices.
- Compliance : Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations, including tax reporting, wage and hour laws, and other applicable standards.
- System Optimization : Utilize your expertise in payroll systems to continually optimize payroll processes, troubleshoot issues, create internal system integration efficiencies through EDI feeds and implement improvements as needed
- Reporting & Reconciliation : Prepare payroll reports for management and reconcile payroll discrepancies, working closely with the finance team to ensure accuracy.
- Employee Support : Serve as a point of contact for employee payroll-related inquiries and ensure timely resolution of any issues.
- Collaboration : Work with HR and finance teams to ensure that payroll-related processes align with broader organizational strategies, particularly during times of organizational growth through acquisitions.
This position will also be expected to maintain a collaborative relationship with the Paylocity support representative to ensure the system is being leveraged appropriately.
- Audit & Control : Oversee regular payroll audits and implement necessary controls to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance.
- System Implementation : Support the initial implementation of the HRIS specifically the payroll module and related processes, controls, and reporting.
- Benefit Data Management : Optimize HRIS system for secure benefit data management and manage benefit invoice reconciliation process.
Qualifications
- Experience : Minimum of 5 years of payroll management experience, with at least 2 years of experience using Paylocity.
- Industry Knowledge : Experience working in a private equity-backed physician practice management or healthcare setting, preferably with exposure to mergers and acquisitions.
- M&A Experience : Proven ability to manage payroll during mergers and acquisitions, including the integration of payroll systems and processes.
- Technical Skills : Proficiency in Paylocity and advanced knowledge of payroll systems and processes. Prior experience in Paylocity implementation, preferred.
- Attention to Detail : Strong analytical skills with an ability to spot inconsistencies and resolve them quickly.
- Communication : Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively and confidentially across departments and with newly acquired teams.
- Education : Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field is preferred. CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification is a plus.
- Integrity : High level of integrity and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
