Job Responsibilities

  • Work closely with scientists, engineers, and other technical experts to communicate complex ideas in a way that a technical and non-technical audience can understand.
  • Reviews all technical reports and proposals and recommends revisions or changes in approaches, scope, format, and risk management.
  • Enter in subsurface logs into gINT and provide technical review per QA-QC requirements.
  • Interact and communicate with subcontractors, clients, and staff at all levels.
  • Design, plan, and perform field exploration, testing, and instrumentation programs.
  • Originate engineering graphics using a variety of modeling data, Mapping, GIS, 3D parametric modeling and advanced processing for 3D imagery (point clouds, reality meshes, digital terrain models and raster imagery).
  • Comprehensive environmental consulting and / or engineering that includes planning, data assessment, reporting, overseeing field personnel, travel and field work, and / or sample collection.
  • Assist with Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments.
  • Assist with review, evaluation, and interpretation of environmental or other technical data and prepare summary reports.
  • Assist with basic testing and deliver samples to outside labs.
  • Assist with geophysical surveys.
  • Follow Shannon & Wilson's Quality Assurance policy.
  • Follow and promote Shannon & Wilsons Health & Safety and Loss Prevention policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Geology, Hydrology, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or other Natural Science;

Master's Degree preferred.

  • 0 to 6 years of experience.
  • Experience with mathematical terms and equations is preferred.
  • Maintains corporate standards for report preparation and style.
  • Manage multiple simultaneous projects and deadlines and adjust priorities based on management direction and program deadlines.
  • Performing soil index property laboratory testing a plus.
  • Computer skills : MS Word, Excel, and ESRI ArcGIS required; AutoCAD, desirable.
  • Extensive travel and year-round field work, particularly in the months of April through October, with working hours more than 40 per week and weekends as needed.

Typically, depending on an applicants education, experience, other qualifications they possess, if they are a fit for the company and local office culture, and the current business needs, an Entry-Level Environmental Scientist typically would be placed at a Shannon & Wilson Professional I, II, III, or IV level.
