AFRICAN AMERICAN CULTURAL CENTER MANAGER
Self Enhancement, Inc. is seeking a mission-driven, self-aware, highly organized and highly motivated African American Cultural Center Management professional with a heart to serve and low ego needs.
The African American Cultural Center Manager (AACCM) provides management for the Cultural Center and Facilities functions of the agency.
The AACC Manager is responsible for developing all the systems, processes, and the implementation of SEI programs and services.
This is a full-time position that reports to the Director of Culture & Communications.
Position Overview : The African American Cultural Center Manager (AACCM) will lead the development and implementation of cultural programming, manage the day-to-day operations of the Tony Hopson, Sr.
Center for Self Enhancement, and oversee the Facilities department. This position requires a dynamic leader with a deep understanding of African American culture, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with the community and various departments within the agency.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Under the direct supervision of the Chief Program Officer (CPO) and the Director of Culture & Communication, the African American Cultural Center Manager oversees the daily workflow, prioritization, and ensures accountability of the day-to-day operations of the African American Cultural Center.
- Provides timely developmental, constructive, and performance feedback.
- Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new and existing staff in the Operations & Brand Management department.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Cultural Programming & Community Engagement
- Supervises the Agency Operations Analyst, Content Branding & Marketing Specialist, and the Special Events Specialist.
- Develop, plan, and execute cultural programs, events, and exhibitions that celebrate African American history, arts, and culture.
- Engage with the African American community to identify needs, interests, and opportunities for cultural programming.
- Foster partnerships with local organizations, artists, and cultural leaders to enhance programming and community involvement.
Center Management
- Oversee the daily operations of the African American Cultural Center, ensuring a welcoming and inclusive environment for all visitors.
- Manage the center's budget, including program funding, grants, and donations.
- Supervise and support center staff, volunteers, and interns.
Facilities Management
- Oversee the Facilities department, ensuring the maintenance, safety, and functionality of all agency properties.
- Develop and implement facilities management plans, including regular inspections, repairs, and upgrades.
- Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for facility-related projects and services.
Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with the Operations department to align cultural center activities with the agency's overall goals and objectives.
- Support the Executive Director in strategic planning and organizational development initiatives.
- Act as a liaison between the cultural center and other departments to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
Outreach & Advocacy
- Advocate for the African American community and promote the cultural center as a hub for cultural education and enrichment.
- Represent the agency at community meetings, cultural events, and public forums.
- Develop and implement outreach strategies to increase community participation and awareness of the center's offerings.
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Collect and analyze data related to program participation, community impact, and facility usage.
- Prepare regular reports for the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
- Use data insights to make informed recommendations for program and facility improvements.
Additional Responsibilities

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS

- Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the agency’s systems and platforms.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in African American Studies, Cultural Studies, Nonprofit Management, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in cultural programming, community engagement, or nonprofit management.
- Extensive knowledge and appreciation of African American history, culture, and arts.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Experience in facilities management and oversight is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in budget management and fundraising.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse communities and stakeholders.
- Proactive and self-motivated with a passion for cultural preservation and education.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
- Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
