CMCB is seeking a motivated and student-centered part-time music production and audio engineering instructor to provide weekly interactive group instruction in digital music production to students of high school age in the Greater Boston area schools or professional recording studio .
This is a great opportunity for candidates with demonstrated group teaching experience who are looking for community, growth opportunities, and a compensation structure that also includes paid administrative time and paid professional development opportunities.
Additionally, both music production and audio engineering are newer subjects to CMCB, and we look forward to partnering with an expert to build and establish these new programs.
Further teaching opportunities are available for candidates with the ability to play and teach multiple instruments and / or candidates who are interested in private teaching.
Status : Part time hourly, exempt
Start Date : December 2024 (programming begins January 2025)
Schedule : In person, Tuesdays and Wednesdays 9 : 15 AM - 12 : 30 PM with room for growth, occasional weekday afternoons or evenings
Specific Responsibilities
Instruction and Curriculum Development
- Provide engaging, culturally inclusive, learner-centered, accessible and motivating group instruction that assists students in the development of digital music production skills while also incorporating the fundamentals of music, such as theory, ensemble, and introductory instruments
- Develop instructional materials, lesson plans, and a grading rubric for classes as part of building a general curriculum
- Assign and grade projects, assignments, and tests
Audio Engineering
- Provide group classes, individual lessons, and / or workshops on the topics of instrumental and vocal recording techniques
- Provide audio engineering support for student recording sessions
Administrative Responsibilities
- Attend the annual faculty orientation and at least three paid professional development opportunities
- Participate in mid-year and year end reviews
- Communicate clearly with CMCB staff and partners
- Complete attendance in registration software accurately
Qualifications
Essential
- Bachelor's degree in Music, Performing Arts, Education, or equivalent professional experience with strong musical abilities and proficiency in playing one or more instruments
- Significant experience with various DAWs (Soundtrap, GarageBand, Logic, Ableton, etc)
- Basic knowledge of different audio software and platforms, both analog and digital
- Prior experience in a recording studio environment with professional level mixing boards
- Minimum of 1 year of experience teaching in a group setting
- Demonstrated experience teaching digital music fundamentals and introductory music material to students of high school age and younger
- Strong classroom management skills with the ability to create and teach effective lesson plans
- Must be adept at and comfortable with working in a culturally diverse environment with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as pedagogical and professional values
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, when conversing with students, families, and colleagues
- Positive attitude and growth mindset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite (Google Docs, Google Forms, and Google Sheets)
Preferred
- Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable
- Experience working in a public school or community setting
- Experience working with students with disabilities
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the person in this position must be able to to remain in a stationary position 25-50% of the time.
They need to constantly move around the space to access teaching supplies, instruments, and students. They must also converse with students in a normal classroom setting and discern and recognize changes in tone, pitch, rhythm, and volume.
They may occasionally move or transport supplies and instruments up to 10 pounds.
