Job Summary
The SVP of Product, Commercial Lines is responsible for building and leading the Commercial Lines Product organization. This role will manage commercial lines programs through the entire product lifecycle ensuring market acceptance and underwriting profitability.
This role will formulate a comprehensive strategic plan to build Orion180’s small-to-mid market commercial lines portfolio while recruiting and managing the team required to execute the plan.
The product team will work closely with the marketing, sales, technology, underwriting, claims, and customer service teams to ensure all proposed initiatives are executed.

The requirements listed below are representative of the fundamental knowledge, skill, and / or ability required to perform the job successfully :
- Develop and design commercial lines insurance products ensuring market acceptance, regulatory compliance, and underwriting profitability.
- Assist in procuring both reinsurance and capacity support for commercial lines products.
- Oversee underwriting guidelines and implement risk management strategies to optimize underwriting results.
- Hire, train and manage a team of underwriters and product managers while fostering a collaborative and high-performance team environment.
- Work closely with shared company resources across IT, Marketing, Compliance, Claims, and Distribution to develop and launch products.
- Develop and execute comprehensive strategic plans for commercial lines product development and ongoing performance management with specific milestones and targets.
- Engage with key customers and incorporate customer feedback into product development and improvement.
- Drive innovation in product design and delivery to maintain a competitive edge.
- Communicate product strategies and performance to internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure all products comply with relevant laws and regulations while staying updated on industry changes and implementing necessary product or process adjustments to maintain compliance and competitiveness.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent insurance industry experience.
- CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter), AU (Associate in Commercial Underwriting), and / or similar designation(s), other related course work, or equivalent insurance industry experience.
- Extensive knowledge of primary and surplus lines insurance products.
- 10 or more years’ insurance product development experience, including demonstrated expertise in the review and drafting of commercial insurance policy forms.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- High degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and sense of urgency in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Proficient with legal research engines (e.g. OneSumX NILS INsource; OneSumX NILS State Filing).
