We are looking for 2024 Summer Interns for our Iowa City office in the Mechanical field. These positions are temporary and generally run over the Summer break for students in a general sense from sometime around mid-May and running through mid to late August.

Timeframe is flexible and can be worked out with the candidate. Students freshman through senior are encouraged to apply.

Candidates will have the chance to work with our Civil and Building Services team in an open office environment, receiving mentorship in engineering design, engineering drafting and plan production, engineering consulting, field and construction investigation and observation, and more.

The majority of work will be office based with additional opportunities for field tasks when job scope and time allow. Mentorship from senior staff will be provided throughout the Summer to provide a diverse and exciting opportunity for growth and even potential future employment!

Ideal candidates will be driven to learn, anxious to expand their knowledge base, and excited about becoming part of a multi-disciplinary team that works on all types of interesting projects.

Primary roles for this position may be :

• Code Research
• Computer Drafting Civil3D or Revit
• Engineering Design Assistance
• Plan Production
• Detailing
• Plan Review and Markups
• Field Visits
• Construction Site Visits
• Learning Specifications
• Contractor RFI / ITC Assistance

This position will ideally be a mix of office and field applications as best as we are able with the workload at the time.

Our intent with internships is to provide a paid opportunity for an ideal candidate to learn real-world application of engineering skills and practices while providing a potential pathway to future employment for highly qualified candidates.

The Engineering field is broad and we understand that many students are still working to determine what path they want to follow.

Because Axiom is a multi-disciplinary firm, the candidate will get to work with all available disciplines in one way or another.

Schedules are flexible and the candidate may work up to 40-hours / week if they desire. Taking time off and allowing for a flexible daily work schedule is not generally an issue.

Term would not go past Labor Day unless the candidate is local and arrangements are desired and arranged for school-session part-time employment.
