Join our team as the Senior Real Estate Editor, where you will play a crucial role in developing, maintaining, and enhancing communications between the Center and its audience.
Under general direction, you will oversee all editorial work for the Center’s publications, including TG, articles, reports, website content, and news releases, ensuring the highest standards of integrity and excellence.
As the primary editorial and communications consultant to Center researchers, you will leverage your expertise in real estate language, topics, and datasets to create engaging and relevant content.
Your intimate knowledge of our constituents’ topical interests will help you craft communications that resonate and engage effectively.

About the Center :
The Texas Real Estate Research Center was founded in 1971 by an act of the Texas Legislature. The Center’s enabling legislation defines a broad mandate to conduct studies in all areas related directly or indirectly to real estate and / or urban or rural economics.
In addition to research programs in residential, commercial, and rural land economics, the Center maintains administrative, data, and communications teams to support its research agenda. Please learn more at
What You Need To Know :
Salary : Compensation will be commensurate to the selected hire’s experience.
This is an applied research position with no possibility for tenure and has no teaching assignments. Publication requirements are met through the Center’s quarterly magazine, TG, and ad-hoc technical reports released on the Center’s website.
Center publications serve the broader real estate industry, banking practitioners, government officials and lay audiences.
Research must be designed with these groups in mind.
Qualifications :
Required Education and Experience :
Bachelor’s degree in a communications related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ten years of related experience in communications or an editorial setting.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Strong verbal and written communications skills.
Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Proficient in specific editorial language related to real estate subject matter.
Preferred Qualifications :
More than ten years of related experience overseeing editorial work or experience coordinating teams and supervising support staff to achieve project objectives.
Responsibilities :
Edits manuscripts for TG (Tierra Grande) magazine and / or online publication
Monitors manuscripts through review progress, approval, and editing procedures.
Oversees editorial process between author and approval levels until approved for publication.
Is the editorial contact for research fellows.
Monitors original submissions, provides editorial process review and notifies center business coordinator at completion.
Serves as a liaison between editorial and center staff for professional communications :
Edits, rewrites, and proofs copy for Center website, monthly / quarterly technical reports, special reports, and all other products produced by the Center’s communications section.
Provides editorial support to program coordinator for center events, as needed.
Reviews and critiques Center videos.
Supervises NewsTalk Texas student employees :
Reviews daily NewsTalk Texas news content provided by student.
Performs annual evaluations.
Coaches and mentors students as needed.
Center Support :
Aligns with Center initiatives and leadership.
May assist Director of Communications as scribe for Advisory Committee meetings.
Attends mandatory meetings and records minutes.
Keeps records and submits to leadership.
Update Center’s in-house editorial style guide and author guidelines. Maximizes the benefit and goodwill the Center earns from constituents by offering exceptional customer service.
Performs other duties as assigned.
