The Village of Orland Park Special Recreation Division is currently seeking a mature, outgoing, positive, well-rounded individual to fill the role of Part-time Senior Program Coordinator Special Recreation, to oversee the coordination of all social programs, trips, and special events (including summer camp services) for this division.
This position will require planning, training, implementation and evaluation of programs and events for individuals with special needs.
The Special Recreation Division offers positive and healthy recreation programming focused on leisure, social, educational, and vocational opportunities within the community for individuals with special needs with a team of talented, dedicated, knowledgeable, and experienced staff.
Special Recreation staff is committed to meeting the unique individual leisure time needs and positively impacting the lives of individuals with special needs every day by focusing on community outreach and re-integration.
Key Responsibilities
Duties include coordinating and supervising the adult day program including participant’s assessments, supervising program staff, planning daily activities and evaluating the program on a routine basis.
This position also assists in producing marketing and promotional materials for the Special Recreation Division; with assistance from the Special Recreation Instructor Specialist, this position will also oversee inclusion services including, but not limited to parent meetings, assessments, staff placements, maintaining seasonal schedules, completing documentation, staff training, coordinating with registrar and assisting with annual staff evaluations.
The Senior Program Coordinator Special Recreation position will also plan, implement and evaluate Special Recreation programs and assigned special events.
In addition this position will prepare all necessary purchase requisitions and Village purchase card requests for supplies needed for programs and special events;
order and maintain all adaptive devices to meet the needs of participants, while tracking inventory.
- Furthermore, this role will complete program recaps for all assigned programs and events; devise assigned programs and event brochure information on a seasonal basis;
- attend Special Recreation team meetings, including training and meetings with other Village departments as it relates to inclusion services;
assists with all Special Recreation fundraisers; build relationships and contacts with local school districts and transitional programs to share Special Recreation services.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
High School Diploma and valid driver’s license is required. Associates or Bachelor’s degree in a related field is strongly preferred.
A minimum of two (2) to five (5) years of related experience in Special Recreation or Special Education field, with related supervisory experience.
Or any combination of education, experience, and training that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above.
This position requires the acquisition of First Aid / CPR certification and class B or C CDL license with a Passenger endorsement and Department of Transportation (DOT) certification within 6 months of employment.
The ideal candidate possesses experience / training in implementing behavior management techniques and having knowledge of cognitive and developmental impairments is highly recommended as well as strong oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, enthusiasm to work with special populations, and proficiency in MS Office.
Experience, knowledge to plan, supervise, and evaluate inclusion services, adult day programming is strongly preferred.
