Franklin Pierce University, in partnership with the national search firm Scott Healy & Associates, invites applications and nominations for the position of Open Rank Faculty Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) in New Hampshire.
The MPAS Program seeks a faculty member who is committed to collegial collaboration amongst all members of the team, and across all phases of the Program.
This is an in-person position located in Lebanon, New Hampshire.
Core faculty in the MPAS Program will work closely with the MPAS faculty and staff and will be primarily responsible for assisting in the administration of the program, including curriculum development, delivery, and review.
In addition to teaching, assignments will include didactic and clinical course coordination, oversight of clinical experiences, academic advising, participating in institutional activities and committees, facilitating quality learning experiences for students, and evaluating students’ performance in cooperation with other faculty.
Responsibilities : Instructional :
Instructional :
- Teach classes in the didactic and clinical phases of the program
- Participate in updating and revising course content and teaching methodology to maintain currency and relevance
- Maintain familiarity with current texts, materials, teaching aids and techniques relative to courses within the discipline and recommend their adoption, when appropriate
- Provide advice and / or assistance as appropriate to faculty regarding course content and instructional materials
Academic Advising :
- Post and observe office hours for purposes of academic advising and student consultation
- Maintain general knowledge of degree requirements, programs and course transfer information
Program and Institutional Service :
- Attend and actively participate in scheduled department meetings and committees, as well as division and university-wide committees
- Actively participate in assisting the University in maintaining standards required for accreditation
- Attend other official functions, PA White Coat Ceremony, and orientation / faculty development events as per Dean of CHNS
- Perform other duties as determined in consultation with the Program Director of the Master of Physician Assistant Studies Program
Professional Growth and Development :
- Actively seek ways to improve instruction
- Maintain a program of personal and professional development appropriate for areas of responsibility
- All faculty members are released for one clinical day / week. This is encouraged, but not required
- Maintain state-of-the-art knowledge and competence in the appropriate academic disciplines pertinent to PA education, including requirements for maintenance of national certification
- Engage in scholarly activities
- Engagement in community service activities is encouraged
Clinical Education :
- Assist with the administration, organization and development of the clinical education phase of the program
- Development and coordination of the annual clinical year calendar and rotation schedule
- Development and maintenance of clinical site relationships
- Coordination of slots for clinical placements
- Coordination of integrated clinical placements
- Evaluate clinical year students
- Develop and maintain documentation required regarding student grades, remediation plans, clinical issues, and other topics related to both clinical sites and clinical year students
- Advise preceptors on expected program learning outcomes
Additional Responsibilities :
- Recruit and liaise with faculty, lecturers, and preceptors
- Orient new faculty, lecturers, staff, and students, as needed
- Develop and analyze exams using available software
- Participate in the admissions process
- Participate in the Program’s ongoing self-study and accreditation process, including preparation of documents and / or reports, and active participation in site visits by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
- Assist employees of the program on an as-needed basis
- Participate in University activities
- Meet requirements articulated in the FPU Faculty Protocol
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications :
- Faculty shall be a graduate of an accredited PA program or related health degree (M.D. / Ph.D. / N.P. / D.O.), with a minimum of a master's degree, and NCCPA certification, if a Physician Assistant
- If Physician Assistant : Maintain national certification with the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- Minimum of 2 years of experience practicing clinical medicine
- Experience teaching in higher education is preferred
- Precepting / Clinical teaching and / or coordination experience is preferred
