Responsibilities :

The Surgical Scrub Tech is accountable to the Manager / Supervisor for the performance of vascular / interventional procedures.

This person works very closely with the interventional Physician and Radiologic Technologist.

  • Position and instruct patients for examinations.
  • Arrange, attach, or adjust immobilization and support devices when needed.
  • Utilize proper safety and patient shielding precautions. (Rule out possibility of pregnancy)
  • Scrub in and assist the Physician.
  • Address the needs of the patients in a timely manner.
  • Monitor the patient for unusual reactions or events and respond appropriately.
  • Perform basic patient care for the comfort and safety of our patients.
  • Follow infection control policies to help prevent Infections.
  • Cleaning equipment and supplies after each examination.
  • Prepare the surgical table and room for the procedure while maintaining sterility.
  • Label all medications and fluids on the table as per policy.
  • Describe the procedure and cover the IV contrast consent form with the patient.
  • Perform Time Out with the appropriate staff present as per policy.
  • Perform any (legally applicable) modality according to the established procedures requested by the Manager and / or Physician.
  • Maintain all supplies necessary for the proper operation of the department.
  • Identify usage rate for proper stocking of supplies without overstocking.
  • Recognize needed supplies for scheduled procedures to ensure that the lack of supplies does not delay or cancel a procedure.
  • Participate in continuing education and in-service programs to maintain adequate knowledge of all procedures performed and any other applicable modality you qualify for.
  • Obtain enough CME in order to maintain your certification.
  • Must be able to assist and perform special procedures that are performed utilizing the X-ray and Fluoro units.
  • Assist Physician during x-ray procedures utilizing sterile technique to accomplish the procedure without contaminating the work area.
  • Attend seminars as required to maintain adequate knowledge to keep yourself and facility up to date with current advances.
  • Enter procedure and supply charges for each patient

  • Maintain the confidentiality and security of Protected Health Information (PHI) in accordance with UVVC policies, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and other applicable laws and regulations.

Qualifications :

  • Completion of Surgical Technology training from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting approved school.
  • Successfully fulfilled all the requirements for certification as a Surgical Technologist.
  • Must meet all continuing education required by the state.
  • Ability to competently perform basic Vascular Lab reception duties.
  • Knowledge of all devices and how to use these devices (catheters, stents, etc.) used in the performance of these procedures.
  • Ability to perform routine scheduling in the Vascular Lab Information System.
  • Ability to answer phone calls per standard registration procedures and handle appropriately, i.e., schedules requests, test results, and other related messages.
  • Employees at all levels of the organization are expected to maintain a positive work atmosphere by demonstrating and communicating in a manner that is courteous and cooperative toward patients, visitors, staff, peers, physicians, and management.
  • Understands current HIPAA, State and Accreditation guidelines.
  • Follows department policies and procedures.
  • Able to operate all equipment associated with the performance of Vascular procedures.
