DESCRIPTION / RESPONSIBILITIES :

Per the Citys COVID19 Mandatory Vaccination Policy, the City requires all employees starting on or after February 11, 2022, to provide proof of vaccination as a condition of employment absent a documented medical and / or religious exemption.

Proof of vaccination means that employees are required to be up-to-date with regards to the COVID-19 vaccine. Consistent with the Santa Clara County Public Health Order issued on December 28, 2021, up-to-date means that an employee is not only fully vaccinated, but has also obtained any booster doses of a COVID-19 vaccination for which they are eligible, within 15 days of first becoming eligible.

ESD is recruiting for three (3) Painter vacancies at the San Jos-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility (RWF). The RWF is located at the southernmost tip of the San Francisco Bay, and is operated by City of San Jose.

The RWF serves about 1.4 million people and 17,000 businesses in the South Bay. The current vacancies are in the facilities and maintenance paint shop.

Salary Information

The annual salary range for Painter, Water Pollution Control Plant is $72,612.80-$88,171.20.

Under general supervision of the Painter Supervisor, the Painter performs journey-level painting work of moderate difficulty to preserve, protect and aesthetically maintain the RWF infrastructure and equipment from exposure to corrosive wastewater as well as hazardous chemicals and gases.

This position involves the execution of duties in a heavy industrial environment which involves confined space entries, extensive use of sandblasting equipment and application of high performance, multiple component coatings such as high solids epoxies, coal tar epoxies, high solids polyurethane enamels and sealants.

Painters are responsible for the following job duties :

  • Cleans and prepares surfaces;
  • Paints, varnishes, stains, and shellacs walls (interior and exterior), ceilings, desks, cabinets, moldings, and floors;
  • Uses, cleans, and stores brushes, spray guns, and other painting tools and implements;
  • Paints traffic signals, fire alarm poles, electroliers and various objects and equipment;
  • Mixes paints, varnishes, shellacs, enamels;
  • Erects and moves scaffolds, ladders and planking;
  • Operate pick-up truck, runway striper, and small striping equipment;
  • Lifts and moves furniture, and other objects;

Prepares requisition forms and orders supplies; and

May have to lift heavy weights 20-100 pounds.
