Job Summary
This job posting reflects multiple positions available at UMC for Registered Respiratory Therapist. Positions currently available are for both Full time* & PRN status.
$15,000 Sign On / Retention Bonus with 2-year contract after orientation and $1,500 relocation assistance*
The Registered Respiratory Therapist performs specialized therapy services as prescribed by provider orders and in accordance with protocol policies and procedures established by UMC
Job Specific Responsibilities
Daily assignments may include but are not limited to :
- Perform diagnostic tests for adult and pediatric patients with breathing or cardiopulmonary disorders.
- Provide assessment, treatment, and monitoring of cardiopulmonary disorder across the continuum of care
- Treat patients using oxygen and oxygen mixtures, aerosol medications, and chest physiotherapy
- Communicate effective to care team concerning patient’s condition, results of diagnostic studies, and responses to treatment plans
- Obtain documentation and complete patient progress notes
- Adhere to policies, procedures, and standards of practice as defined by and / or stated by the National Board of Respiratory Care, DNV, and UMC departmental standard policy and procedure manual
- All other assigned duties related to Respiratory Therapy
Transport Therapist additional responsibilities :
- Utilize UMC Flight protocols to provide quality respiratory care to patient throughout the transport process
- Properly utilize aircraft radios and navigation tools to assist in the safe transport of patient
- Represent UMC Flight Team in public relations and safety in service events
- Must be able to commit to a minimum of 10 call shifts per month
Education and Experience
- Graduate from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program
- 1 year of clinical experience, preferably in hospital based respiratory care
If Application for Transport Team, the following additional qualifications are required
- 2 years of respiratory clinical experience working in a Neonatal Intensive Care
- 1 year as NICU / PICU Flight therapist
Required Licensures / Certifications / Registrations
- RRT) Registered Respiratory Therapist, registered with the National Board of Respiratory Care
- New graduates with CRT credentials are eligible for hire if the RRT credentials can be obtained from the National Board of Respiratory Care and candidate is within 6 months of graduation from a Respiratory Therapy Program
If Application for Transport Team, the following additional qualifications are required
NPS (Neonatal Pediatric Specialist with the National Board of Respiratory Care)
Skills and Abilities
- Must be able to apply the theory of cardiac pulmonary medicine under the bylaws of the National Board of Respiratory Care
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and express independent judgement
- Know techniques of assisting and handling patients
- Be able to make decisions independently
- Possess a high degree of accuracy in executing prescriptions, receiving and translating information, charting, and reporting
Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
This position has much interaction with nursing staff and interaction with medical staff.
Physical Capabilities
Requires extended periods of standing, walking, talking, and listening. Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work irregular hours and may include weekends
Environmental / Working Conditions
This position is subject to inside environmental changes that may include constant change in temperatures. Exposure to blood and blood borne pathogens is high risk.
