About Covenant House New York
For over 50 years, (CHNY) has been a leader in providing residential services to vulnerable homeless, runaway, and exploited youth.
As the largest provider of runaway and homeless youth services in New York City, CHNY serves over 1,500 young adults, ages 16-24, annually with an operating budget of over 32 million dollars.
In FY24, we provided over 140,000 nights of housing through our residential programs, we had over 3,500 visits to our on-site medical clinic, and almost 600 youth were placed in stable housing.
CHNY’s doors are open to all young people who need help, regardless of their race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression.
Currently, 30% of youth at CHNY identify as LGBTQ+, and Black and Latino youth represent 62% of the youth we serve. We facilitate our services using trauma-informed principles to help youth experiencing homelessness achieve independence.
A main priority for CHNY is advocating for systemic change through public policy while promoting awareness of critical issues related to youth homelessness and human trafficking.
Additional major legislative priorities include protections for youth in the child welfare system, criminal justice reform, especially related to the civil consequences of criminal convictions, and laws to protect and better serve survivors of human trafficking.
