Job Summary : Under the direction of the Senior Director of Operations and Administration, this position is responsible for the overall financial management of the organization, interpreting and implementing accounting policies, procedures, and internal control, and maintaining compliance with all relevant financial policies and regulations.

This position is responsible for the budgeting and financial reporting processes and supporting the Executive Director with developing and administering Agency financial goals.

This also includes responsibility for the performance and supervision of finance department personnel.

Scope of Supervision : Finance Supervisors and Controller

Essential Functions (Not All Inclusive) :

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Responsible for maintaining an internal reporting system that ensures accuracy, transparency, and accountability for all Agency financial activities.
  • Leading the strategic planning, development, and administration of departmental initiatives.
  • Supports the Executive Director with the agency’s financial internal controls.
  • Ensures timely and accurate financial materials and reports, including, but not limited to, monthly financial statements for the Executive Director, leadership team, and the Board of Directors.
  • Serves as the primary liaison between program directors and the finance department, and encourages communication with appropriate finance personnel.
  • With the Executive Director, plans and coordinates the Agency-wide budgeting process which includes the preparation of the annual operating budget.
  • Oversees cash flow management, including investing and debt repayment, to comply with Agency cash objectives.
  • Serves as the staff liaison to the Finance Committee.
  • Establishes and maintains professional relationships with financial institutions, audit firms, and related businesses as necessary.
  • Secures, reviews, and maintains appropriate insurance coverage for the Agency. Works with insurance agents to negotiate renewal coverages and endorsements.
  • Provide oversight for Agency purchasing and procurement procedures.
  • Responsible for all financial regulatory reporting, including annual audits, IRS and financial funding source report in conjunction with the Executive Director.
  • Supervise and manage assigned staff, including assigning and prioritizing work. Conduct performance evaluations of staff and provide guidance for improvement.

Interview, hire, and provide development opportunities to finance staff.

  • Serving as a productive and engaged member of the senior leadership team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements :

Education & Experience :

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management or related field.
  • 10 years of experience in the field or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • 7 years of management experience in a finance or accounting department.
  • 3 years of non-profit or federal grant experience in a senior-level finance or accounting position.
  • CPA licensure is a plus.

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex information to persons with widely varying levels of technical knowledge.

Core Technology Competency : Level 2 - Intermediate 1

Driver’s License : A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation on a daily basis is required.

  • Leadership principles;
  • Financial administration principles, practices, and procedures;
  • Budgeting principles;
  • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
  • Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) principles;
  • Internal financial control practices;
  • Applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations;
  • Automated financial systems;
  • Report preparation techniques;
  • Audit process.

Physical Requirements : Normal office physical exertion required.

Mental Requirements : This position requires an awareness of deadlines, the ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and significant deadline pressure, and the ability to function independently.

Environmental Requirements : Normal office environment. Remote Work eligible 20% upon supervisor approval.

Schedule : M-F, 40 Hours / Week, Overtime Exempt
