The Community Stewardship Manager will provide overall strategic vision and expertise to LandPaths Community Stewardship Initiative;
ensuring that LandPaths Community Preserves are well stewarded for ecological health and climate resilience, and are centers of activity, where people experience belonging and engage in nature-based opportunities to enrich their connection with the land and each other.
The Manager will provide leadership and oversight to LandPaths Preserve Stewardship and Community Hub programs through collaborative goal setting, planning, budgeting, staff management, and evaluation.
Relevant disciplines in addition to being a dynamic leader and creative thinker with a passion for supporting equity, people and nature include : ecology, natural resources and land management, traditional ecological knowledge, facilities management, environmental education, landscape planning.
Position Duties
Leadership
- Collaboratively develop multi-year Community Preserves vision aligning with LandPaths mission including natural resources management plans, site facilities planning and development;
- Advance deep structural perspectives and improvements for equity and justice within the organization and in access to and caring for the land;
- Active collaboration on Leadership Team, responsible for all initiatives, and cross-initiative communication;
- Present to community and larger public forums;
- Develop and deepen through active listening and mutual understanding, relationships to expand the network supporting and advancing LandPaths mission, and community-focused strategy;
- Cultivate, participate and take leadership roles in relationships, partnerships, collaborations and initiatives to advance community connections with the land including stewardship and land tending;
- Represent LandPaths in the community, aligning LandPaths work with communities, and larger County-wide collective impact efforts
Management
- Manage all aspects of LandPaths Community Preserves; natural and infrastructure planning, community-centered stewardship, and communication with neighbors, partners and other relevant forums;
- Hire, mentor, motivate, review and retain a high performing team; ensure team is prepared to contribute at their highest level;
- hold all team members accountable, and ensure they have the knowledge, skills, ability and resources needed to succeed;
- Develop, manage, and assess budgets; determine the most effective use of staff time and resources for program excellence within strategic priorities;
- Support fundraising including grant proposals;
- Provide contract and successful grant management for deliverables and reporting
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- A demonstrated passion for equity with an understanding of the dynamics of power and privilege
- At least 5 years experience leading and managing projects, programs, and people
- Experience building programs from an idea all the way through implementation and evaluation
- Experience with site planning, permitting, regulations and CEQA;
- Knowledge of the local ecology, including fire resilience and the impact of climate change;
- Experience working in community, especially under-represented communities and volunteers;
- Strong communication skills : articulate with proven ability to write effectively and speak persuasively;
- Strong leadership and management skills with an entrepreneurial spirit;
- Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate staff, volunteers, donors and potential partners;
- College degree or relevant work experience
